I had bantam cochins... sold the whole flock to another BYCer... I can't remember their name but they are in middle TN... I liked them alright. Good personalities. I have some LF Cochins... sweet birds.

I like the Shiner sport. The feathers are beautiful...would it be called barring or laced or am I completely in the dark?

Oh, you are pinning me against the wall in giving up my cross!!! They are laced... a type of laced... not normal laced... and that is all you will get out of me!! lol

Oh and here is some info on the TN Shiners.... see the sport girl pic? and that Barred Roo in the shot? They were hatched the same day... same age. That is just their size. They are small, but not bantam. I LOVE THEM!!! (Can you tell?) Makes me want to go hug them... but I won't because that is weird and it's dark and they aren't cuddily... they are independant and I hardly ever have to feed them because they are range smart. The flock is mixed up with Del crosses and a EE... they have a 7lb feeder... go all week on 7lbs. Maybe bit more than a week. I wish all chickens were like them.

Stang... are you buying those cochin eggs? there is a new bid and you have been quiet!! lol!
LOL, I'm still leary about shipping eggs, it'd be more than $30 just for 8 eggs and 80-90% hatch rate for them probably means only 4 will hatch here and three will be cockerels...

My chickens must be the dumb ones. I take turns letting them out to free range & they still eat way more than 7 lbs. of feed a week & one has 7 and the other has 6! I guess mine are like my Mini Schnauzer- genetically breed to be coddled. My husband says he is surprised the first Orps I got have enough sense to eat & drink.

Oh Lordy! We do not have the same thought there... I don't want to admit the $ I put on hatching eggs shipped in. I prefer hatching eggs actually... people only sell culls, hatching eggs gives you the same chance at a better bird as they have.

I thought those cochin eggs were a steal!!!

LOL... Orps are just HUGE. Anything that lays brown eggs eats more... the darker the egg, the more they eat. Also the bigger they are the more they eat... The shiners lay dark but are small and good at finding food. I know when I don't see them right off the bat they are waaaaaaaaaay out back scratching in the compost. Then a blue jay flies over and they run full speed under the nearest carport. Yes, blue jay's scar them.... which is why a hawk has never got one.
