Stang...I got ya covered on the D'Uccles! I just hatched out 2 F3 lavenders. Here are a couple pics of mine.

I am getting ready to boot this one before he breaks off his leg feathering. I know he is not an acceptable color for show but gonna do it anyway.

You would love them because they fit your personality Stang...just sweet and gentle. They are very personable and very big pets. With their size some people even keep them in their homes like parrots. And they are real talkers too.

Yeah, I need some d'uccle eggs! I pm'd the other person, only spring eggs...

Welcome!!! Believe me..you will be so glad you joined us...we are crazy, insightful, wonderful to laugh at and we ALWAYS have each others backs. Seriously. When one has a problem everyone pitches in to help or find a solution or figure out a game plan. And you have joined just in time to come to our picnic!!

Naw..he is a pretty nice guy and works hard to make this forum great....be warned though. If you are not on here at least every other day plan on spending a little time catching up...I am cross-eyed from catching up on 5 days worth. But it just means we have some great members who like to socialize with us.

It's the only thread I keep up with. Bet you all wish I spread out a bit more while I'm down and out, huh?

Actually I have had the idea for a long time but did not know where to start.

Mine is a Hovabator and I love it in spite of it being a stryofoam type. I bought it new for $105 (included shipping) and a turner is app. $30. You are welcome to come look at mine any time. I have hatched over 400 eggs in 18 mo. and it has always been very stable keeping the temps and humidity where it should be. Everyone has their own way of doing things so you will eventually develop some of your own techniques. Silkie hens are great as brooders. I have 2 and I breed them...so...you will not have far to look. One of my girls has brooded around 75 babies this summer.

Does anyone have a HovaBator Genesis 1588 I am wanting to get that incubator for chicken eggs along with the turner that goes with it. I wanted to know if you like it and if you get good hatches with it or not and what temp and humidity do you set yours at...I am thinking I would set humidity to 35-45% and temp. to 99.5 for the first 18 days, then on lockdown up the humidity to 55-60%

I don't know the model numbers but I use a Hovabator, still air (no fan). I have two now... sold my extra one for $5 so you missed out!! I like them enough to keep buying more when I need more egg space. Once you set the temp, it never waivers. I have had my oldest one set the same for years in and out of storage. There is a temp spike at week 2-3... but that is the water tray being empty. Don't adjust the knob, just add water and it will go right back to the right temp again. (100-101 ON TOP of the eggs)

I don't blame you. I stopped even talking about what breeds I am saving up to get next. I don't drool over something forever to be last to get it. LOL!!!

I've got a hovabator 1602N model, with the egg turner and fan, bought on CL for $30 I think... I paid more for the turner and little giant incubator I got from Nellabean... I paid a lot for my brinsea mini, but bought new from brinsea... my favs are brinsea and hovabator... they both have fans and hold steady temps and recover quicker when opened

I am allergic to dust but have brooded several in my laundry room. I can usually stand it the first 4 weeks then I start getting frantic wanting them out of the house.

I start mine on shredded paper. Less dust and they seem to do better. I have a couple ideas that I am going to do which will cut down on the dust a great deal. Will show you how. If you have a silkie hen that will brood chicks that would be your best bet. I am hatching out silkies right now so there will be some ready in the spring. I even let one of my 2 1/2 old chicks brood 2 chicks I hatched a couple weeks ago. She did wonderful.

well...when mine start laying more I could bring them to the picnic. I may be able to have 7 by that time. Right now they are on one day and off the next. Even if I have a couple or 3 I can bring them. They will probably be lavenders. I have some that may be silkie/D'Uccle mix. Wonder what that would look like? If you would like adults I have some for sale right now. I have a couple mille fluers, black which are looking like they are becoming more mottled. The hens are POL in fact the F3s I just hatched out is out of that clutch and I am sure I have a roo or 5 running around.

I vote Brinsea. I let Contrast borrow mine last winter and she liked it so much she got one for herself.

I won't be hatching this spring, so I'll probably be able to loan mine out again. I also have two LG 'bators with turners. When I was attempting staggered hatches I would use the LG to incubate and the Brinsea to hatch.

The only thing I don't like about Brinsea is they have TERRIBLE customer service. My turner stopped working after my first hatch and they refused to repair or replace at their cost because I hadn't registered it when I bought it. The repair and shipping ended up being about $10 less than I had paid for it new. And to make matters worse, the lady responsible for answering calls is snippy. Customer service is just NOT her calling.

Now the people at chickendoors.com are the exact opposite. Super helpful and courteous. I had a wonky door and they bent over backwards to make sure it was replaced and I was happy. I love those people.
