It's the only thread I keep up with. Bet you all wish I spread out a bit more while I'm down and out, huh?

Littlechicklet, according to my mama hen, the orp chicks are just FINE without any heat right now.

I've got her and the splash chick in the foyer of my coop. I let everyone out to free range and at bedtime she went back into her old pen and hopped up on the roost. The baby was underneath peeping her head off. I hung around to see if she would come to her senses, but she really was settled in for the night.

I took her off the roost and put her back in the foyer and closed the pen door. She tried to find a way in for a little while then settled into her old nesting box and let the chick climb in under her.

I was sure I was going to have to set up the brooder again and I was NOT happy.

The Genesis is their latest model. I have heard good things about it. I think the only main difference between the Genesis and the turbofan model is the digital thermometer. The cheapest I can find the Genesis with the 1611 turner is here for a total of 185.

I like the Brinsea more...but it is double the price

Does anyone have a HovaBator Genesis 1588 I am wanting to get that incubator for chicken eggs along with the turner that goes with it. I wanted to know if you like it and if you get good hatches with it or not and what temp and humidity do you set yours at...I am thinking I would set humidity to 35-45% and temp. to 99.5 for the first 18 days, then on lockdown up the humidity to 55-60%
Also....Your opening up a can of worms on the humidity thing, LOL I think there are many opinions out there.

Me pers. I do a dry hatch until lock down when I crank it as far as I can get it. Usually it runs about 40-45 first 18 days.....day 19 its on the rise from the hot water I added and hits about 65, day 20 its about 75 and when the first egg cracks its usually 85. But that is from going up on it's own, I just fill it full of hot water the evening of day 18 and it goes where it goes.

Her original post modified so Rodney did not have to type as much :)

WE ARE HOLDING THE PICNIC HERE UNLESS AN EMERGENCY COMES UP, AND THEN WE WILL USE THE ALTERNATE.
SUNDAY OCTOBER 21'st at 1 PM

Holston River Park

location: 3300 Holston Hills Road
Knoxville 37914

EMERGENCY ALTERNATE: Spring Place Park (also known as Loves Creek Park)

location: 5201 Parker Dr.
Knoxville, 37924

If we have to use the alternate...I will place signs out and we will start calling everyone to let them know to divert....so mapquest both locations please.

I am going to try and call to see if the shelters are already reserved so I can give advanced notice if we have to go to plan B or not. I'll also try to get there as early as possible so AJ and I can get the signs up to make it look like it is taken :)

Okay, for you people who are using them in your house: After they hatch, what do you do? Do you keep brooder in your house also? I could do that for about a month, but then I would have a melt-down.

And BAIRO, I started shots. How long after I am done do I need to wait before I can use that vaccine for ILT?

Listening to your threads makes me realize how much I don't know. I read, read, read, read, read.....books, magazines, interenet, etc. and still IGNORANT. You people are advanced. You are hatching 80 eggs under a hen, and I just want to keep my hen alive. lol
