You are hilarious. Are you going to the meeting? I would love to meet you. You have my "odd" sense of humor. I love seeing your post.

Maybe.... I don't want to lock down to a yes or no. I have good days and bad days and I never know what I will have until it's here. ;)

And it's good to have someone who gets my humor... it's rare. Most of the time I just offend. LMAO

I in no way mean this bad, but I wouldn't buy chicks from Ideal. I didn't buy chicks from them, but I received a Dorking rooster from someone who got it from Ideal. It had such bad type that I found a replacement roo. It was so far out of breed standard that I would never consider breeding him with my ladies. Others may have great chicks from them. I have heard mixed things. That was just my personal experience. If you want good chicks that you aren't considering breeding than it probably would be a good option. Others may have had a better experience. Sometimes you get what you pay for.
Yeah, some hatcheries have very poor breeders in their pens... I don't care for Ideal either, they sent me a mix of cornish broilers and freedom rangers, and I kept losing one every week it seemed... I was dissatisfied with the quality of "hardiness" they provided, now Welp had some survivors... I've never had anything shipped from them die, of course I've only bought cornish broilers from them because the shipping is included in the price of the chick *they have a minimum of 25 chicks*. I've liked Meyers pretty good too, they have a FB page and the owner seems to care for their business and birds... can't say you'll get the best type but I won 15 chicks from them and only lost 2... I got a wyandotte pullet assortment.

I have heard that too... I seen a few examples of birds who could have been crossed from them... kinda close to standard, but not really. For pets, whatever... but if you are breeding you want some good birds to work with.

Welp and Ideal work together - same birds for most breeds.... and Meyer and MyPetChicken are the same deal there too.

That said, I prefer Meyer over the rest. They really do care about the birds. Some hatcheries have a callus look towards them (the chicks are dollars, not living animals) and that I do not support. If I buy hatchery for something, it's Meyer or MyPetChicken.

Hmm.. never heard about that, and I must say I've ordered from both Welp and Ideal and the one time I ordered from Ideal I swore I never would again and have had zero issues with Welp.. Of course, I did order Cornish broilers, which those on their own have some secret "recipe" of how to create them... I never had to call Welp to refund my money due to any baby chicks, I think they've always sent 26 and only 1 time did the 26th die and since it's extra can't complain about it.. but with Ideal I remember quite well that they sent me only 25 and 2 were dead, they refunded me for the 2 and then the next day I had lost another, then the next week antoher... and it kept happening...

If I hadn't used the pressure washer, I would've had to get a chisel. Don't think Tommy is going to allow me on craigslist for awhile. lol

My next purchase will be near the end of the year. Going to buy an incubator for our guineas. I think I'm going to take a swipe at trying to collect their eggs. They are only 3 months old now - trying to get their voice. I can hear at least one female. *crossing fingers. Next month we are going to let them out of their pen and see if we can get them to go back at night.

That was disgusting. I've showered twice, and I still smell it. blech.
rinse in white vinegar, works wonders on smells and great for your hair.

See and I know because I ordered from Welp... return address was Ideal's and 70% of the birds died in the first week. Welp is ran by a now elderly couple... chicks in hatcheries are done much like any other merchandise... dropshipped for lack of a better term. If you order enough and watch the return address on the box, you'd see..... they keep it a secret, or try to... but that is how it's done. Just like My Pet Chicken's Penedesencas, Barnevelders, BCMs, and something else I don't remember are really Hubbard's.... you can get them directly from Hubbard, or pay MPC a few cents more per chick. Trust me, I have studied the model.

Congrats.

Easy there stang, you face may freeze with that ear to ear smile. JK

Will you keep posting photos as they grow? I really get into stuff like this.

I may be wrong but.......I understood that they don't require you to buy a full load. And if you are light, they throw in random cocks to keep the other chics warm. They have a message on their site, that the cocks they throw in are random and random breeds. (free) So maybe you got one of those? Just a theory.

Good to know! I've not ordered through MPC or Hubbard..
