Easy and Cheep Feeder

I made one very similar last year(even got the 5 gallon bucket for free at at my store's deli). My only complaint is that my chickens were able to waste a lot of feed by scratching and billing it out.
I ended up spending the money on a feeder and I absolutely love it. They hardly waste at all and I think it was worth spending a little money on. I don't even use my bucket feeder anymore. For what it's worth if anyone is interested here is where I got mine, I found it to be the cheapest here.

I made several using a 12.5gal bucket cut to only 2.5" deep for the base and a 7gal bucket for the feed. I drill 6 1.5" holes around the bottom of the feed bucket and I connect the 2 buckets with 1 bolt in the center and large washers. I too use a funnel to help the feed get out the holes.

The buckets I use, used to hold 3" chlorine tablets for swimming pools. I get them for free. The 7gal one can hold about 30-35 lbs of feed and the 12.5gal holds 50lbs. They have screw on lids and since they had chlorine in them, all you need to do is flush them real good with water and let them air out and dry.

Check with your local pool guys, around here none of the recyclers take #2 plastics, so the pool guys are just throwing them away.

Can you hang this feeder? Did you get the lid too and would you recommend getting the lid? I already have a galvanized metal feeder, but they do bill the feed all over the ground.

Sorry, I haven't been on here in a while. Well, I'm not sure if you can hang or not, but It seems that it is made to be hung. I haven't tried with mine, I just placed mine on the ground. I did purchase a lid, but it doesn't stay on well, one of the drawbacks to the feeder. (However, if you did hang this feeder, I think that in itself would keep the lid on, I think that's why it doesn't stay on for me). I need to fiddle around with it to see what I can do about that. I would say yes, get the lid.

I have a galvanized feeder as well and find that they waste a lot from that too. This feeder has really been the best so far at eliminating wasting.
