Eaten broken egg

Hello all! I have 9 laying hens. This morning I walked into the coop to find an egg underneath the roosts and it was cracked open with the yolk showing. I had to run my son to school and when I returned the broken egg was no longer there. I’m hoping this is a one off incident. Do I need to be concerned? Also, since somebody ate it, can that cause for disease to them or my family eating their eggs? Any insight is appreciated

I'd be more concerned about them learning to eat their own egg's.

Nah, there is nothing wrong with giving your chickens eggs. I doubt this would cause an egg eating habit, but if it does that is what I would be concerned about. Not because egg is bad for them, but because then their eating you precious eggs.

They ate it because it was there, cracked and available. Their natural instinct tells them to clean it up (plus it's tasty). As long as they don't turn it into a habit, it's a one off and nothing to worry about.

Also they're not going to get sick from it or get your family sick - some people opt to feed extra or dirty eggs back to their chickens)
