So we had 12 fertile eggs, and about a week before they hatched, one was eaten, (prob by the other hen who was not broody) any ideas why? Was something wrong with the developing chick and the hens instinctually ate it in order to avoid attracting predators?

I'm explaining why it got eaten. How you rolled out mice, rats or other predators?
So.. kind of a funny situation, but at the time The hen was actually staying in the house because she was weak from coccodia. The other hand was the only other animal in there, and there was no opening where mice or rats could get in.

Sry hen not hand

She's broody inside with another hen for company? Sometimes hens fight over nest boxes and break eggs, is unfortunate when they're incubated eggs.

We took her out right away after that.. thank you for telling me, we will definitely never make that mistake again! Anyway, after that all 11 hatched healthy!!!
