Eaten

Just wondering we live very wooded and bit the bullet and fenced in a half acre so there is at least a fence between preds and our birds. If we hadn't done that I wouldn't have any left. Very sorry for your loss. Not chance it's out on a nest of eggs some where?

I have not seen a red Fox here. I saw a grey one but they are fruit eating. Lots of bobcat and coyote. Plus tons of racoon which will try for the young ducks but I have them protected at night. Annoying that the duck got eaten in the middle of the day. That's usually when I lose them as they are safe at night.

are you talking about grey foxes because I have never seen a fruit eating grey fox? Everyone I have ever seen is a meat eater.

Magnolia, Texas? Or somewhere else?

What I meant was it is abnormal for the bobcat species to be out in the daytime, but it is becoming more normal and it shouldn’t be. It contradicts their instincts, being a small lone hunter. Because they are such a sensitive species, they are a good indicator of ecosystem health around them (spoiler, it’s getting worse)

Grey foxes are omnivores but not as likely to go after chickens as a red fox.

Yes Texas. I saw on your profile that you were in Houston. It may be the same bobcat that comes by every week .Usually on Mondays so I know to watch for it. It caught me by surprise on Sunday.

Bobcats are nocturnal. You can see them in the day but it’s not normal. Bobcats are losing habitat and becoming more desperate, hence more sightings and bold behavior... Coyotes, on the other hand, are thriving in suburban areas and neighborhoods. :/

That's because people do not keep their cats inside. As long as people think it's safe for their cats, most other animals are safe.

I shouldn't admit this but I don't let the cat out unless the ducks are out. I figure they are the better target. So far that has proven true as the cat has not been eaten but the ducks have. I got a pair of geese thinking that might help. But not so much. They are however quite fun.

I am in magnolia too lol. Small world. I have Houston listed because it’s more well known.

I’ve never known any cats that were killed by bobcats, I guess if they roam far enough it’s likely, but mine stays close to the house. There’s been a massive cat slaughter from coyotes recently though.

Yep lost one to a coyote. Replacement cat is not allowed outside. Other cat was indoor outdoor and can't be kept inside. Would tear the house down. He is funny because he flocks with the ducks and shares their snacks.
