OK, my husband is afraid to reach under the broodies and retrieve the eggs. So sometimes they sit under the hens until I have time to retreive them (overnight or longer). I've been feeding the "preheated"

eggs to the dogs. But do I really need to worry about them? How long is "too long" under the hen? Thanks.

If it's just a day, it's no big deal. If they've had the egg longer than 24 hours that starts the baby growing, if the egg was fertile, and I can't bring myself to eat it! PC just brought this up yesterday, but he wanted to eat infertile eggs 3 days old and I said ewwwww, but another member said it was fine. So, it's all up to you!

if you have no rooster then i would say they are fine...

sometimes my hens will lay in the evening hours and they will sit in the nest till the following day.

I check for eggs 2X a day at 2pm and again at about 5 so if they lay after 5 they will sit in the nest till 2pm the next day. its great when I get 13 eggs from 10 chickens...lol but thats when I know someone laid after 5pm the night B4
