Hello, I recently gave my hens terramycin mixed in their water... we may have had a couple sick chickens recently. They are all fine now. But, my question is, can I eat their eggs... I was told by my neighbor to not eat the eggs after they received antibiotics.. is this true?? And how long should I wait if I can’t eat them?? Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Don't know if you can make sense of this link or not, but it's great info regarding residues in eggs from many drugs. I couldn't find terramycin, but maybe you can find out what other drug names are in that same class and compare...

Maybe you can copy and paste to your browser since it doesn't seem to be linking. :hmm

You may find more information on FARAD.
Most antibiotics are not labeled for use in laying hens and/or meat birds. There is a concern of medicine residue in eggs and meat. Sometimes there is no study to determine how long meds may still be in eggs/meat, so to cover bases, it's labeled not for use in laying hens, etc.

For backyard chicken owners, it would be up to them to determine if the eggs/meat is safe to eat. You also need to consider whether or not you are allergic to the medication. Also if you sell eggs to customers or give away eggs to your family/friends then extra care should be taken.

No one can tell you whether or not the eggs are absolutely safe to eat or not, since there are too many factors to consider. Do some research and hopefully you will find a withdrawal period you feel comfortable with. If not, and your hens are for eggs, then consider culling and starting over.
