Forgive the newbie question here. 😂. I have been raising 6 laying hens from chicks. They're 8 weeks old now so they're still a bit away from being old enough to lay eggs. I am pretty sure that one of them is not really a hen but is a rooster. I'm wondering, when they're old enough to lay eggs, do I just collect and eat them as normal? I have no intention (at this point) of hatching out eggs. MAYBE in the future, I'd let a broody mama hatch some but I'm not ready for that yet. I'm just wondering if they'll look the same and be edible if they're not kept warm and treated any differently.

TIA

They will be perfectly edible, no worries. It’s how we’ve been eating eggs for centuries.
However, you should consider rehoming the boy and waiting until you’re truly ready for a rooster. They’re so so much more work than hens. And can be dangerous to children.

The first eggs are usually small size, but perfectly edible.

Collect twice daily for best results. 😃 GC

Thanks LizzzyJo. I've decided on a wait and see approach for the rooster as far as rehoming. I originally thought I wouldn't like one at all, but he's the sweetest one.
