Probably not the "best" idea to feed them back to the chickens...they do have residual amounts of the antibiotic in them, so in essence, you're "double dosing" the chickens. Hope I don't sound like a "know-it-all" or anything...I've had a few bouts of respiratory illness and have done hours and hours of research on it. I've come to the conclusion that with illnesses, it's best to always err on the safe side. Just my two cents!!

Yeah, unfortunately!! I've had a few bouts of respiratory stuff, and it's not fun. I've actually been researching (lately) illness in chickens, and found an article that states chickens are susceptible to more diseases than any other species on earth! I dunno if that's true or not, but it does make me feel a bit better.

This is my first time with anything and it really gave me a run for my money but all but two birds pulled through and they were the ones that were the early warning signs

I hope this never happens again but I do have more experiance and help from my BYC friends now.

That is the one good thing about battling illness; you always learn more about SOMETHING when you go through it. Last year, I learned how to tube feed a chicken directly into its crop, learned what the "warning signs" are to look for with respiratory illness, learned how to make a nutritious slurry for hand feeding...probably much more, too! I always TRY to find the positive in everything. Sometimes, it's hard to see; but if you look closely, you'll find something to appreciate from every situation!!

I know you are not selling the eggs until you are sure that the meds are out of their system. That's great and very responsible of you. I just hope others realize how important is is. My daughter is not one of those people that is allergic to a bunch of stuff, but she does have reactions to some anti-biotics. She once took minocycline to clear up some acne, and it nearly killed her. Her entire immune system shut down. Her white blood cells were all but non-existant. Somebody could eat eggs with an anti-biotic in them and suffer great harm. It's just not worth the risk.
