Eating Guineas?

I'm just curious--has anyone ever butchered Guineas? I'm sure they'd be similar to chickens, but I wonder what they would taste like. Possibly like a pheasant?

Yes, we raise guineas for eating primarily. They are very good, more flavor than chickens. Their thighs and legs are smaller, but the breast is good size. I don't know if they taste like pheasant since I've never had pheasant.

That's good to know. I was going to keep mine through the winter, but have begun to think that in our cold climate, it might just be too much togetherness between them and the chickens!

Well to me they taste like pheasant a very dry meat,not sure how to get them as juicy as chicken

Oh man they are great... taste just like pheasant.

I wrap mine up in bacon, and put them on the grill. I keep them on low for about 30-40 minutes. Unwrap the bacon and eat!!

Oh ya, I brown mine in a skillet first just to get the skin crispy... two minutes on each side.

as i mentioned elsewhere, i skin my chickens because its quicker/easier for me...any reason why i couldn't do the same to a guinea? i'm going with the assumption that birds are pretty much the same anatomically speaking.

Do you have to butcher them young to avoid them being tough?

I have 6 of the devils, and they're driving me INSANE with being mean to the chickens, I can't handle it much more.
I might overcome my wimpyness of cutting a head off...
