Eating Guineas?

I doubt that the ones my mom butchered were all very young. When she wanted to fix one she'd take the 22 out into the yard and shoot one in the head! She had great aim!!

perhaps I'll try, we have 5 boys and 1 girl and the boys do nothing but chase each other and the chickens around... the girl doesn't do much other than hide away with a nest every couple of weeks, then we all have to go hunting for her

I am having the same problem with my gunias, besides them picking at the layers, They travel over a mile, and eat produce. I orginally purchased them for organic gardening. Someone forgot to mention besides eating the pests they really like tomatoes, more so than the turkeys and layers.

I will say now that I moved them in the barn for the winter with the layers thay have settled down. I also took out two roosters (had to many). They are a little nicer. But on a nice day I let everyboby out to enjoy the sun and the guines still wondered to the busy road that is so far from their roasting area.

Anyhow when can you butcher before they are only soup and stew material? Mine are 6 months old.

flock-
14-araucana, 38- iza browns, 4 black australorp, 4-buff orphanton, 5-guineas, 8-speckled sussex, 6-partiage rock, 3- RIreds, 5-white rocks, 5-barred rocks!

Six month is just about right. I butchered a bunch of them and they are delicious. They are a lot like pheasant not as dry, they have a bit more fat on them. I braised mine and served them with a dark Cherry sauce. I did not find them the least bit dry. Just dont over cook them

Any meat I think might be too dry I inject with some italian dressing or other marinade. Works like a charm whether you are frying a turkey or roasting venison, etc.
