eating lizards

Your absolutly right about their lack of response to my calls. I 've been wondering about why I haven't seen any lizard's around lately. I didn't know chickens were like a roadrunner, these are my first! I did enjoy watching her eat that lizard, I freerange my girls so they have a diverse food source, I wasn't aware just how diverse it was ! I was concerned if I was giving them to much free time.

Some people free range ALL the time. In reality, it's up to you how much time you want them to be running wherever they want; pooping anywhere they please. Some close them up because of predators. But chickens "tend to", not always, go back to their coop at night anyway. Or at least a place that they feel safe.

Besides lizards and bugs they also love mice, frogs, small snakes, and anything else that they can catch/kill/eat.

funny vid of chicken vs mouse

I don't think chickens have the ability to equate not getting to range with punishment of not coming to see you when you called.

I think it would be more effective to arrive with some nice crickets or worms and make hanging out with you delicious for them.

Maybe they were really enjoying thier feast of lizzard.

Think of it as your favorite meal - perfectly prepared and your care taker calls you but comes empty handed. I think I would finish the prize in front of me and go visit the care taker later too!

My girls love the cream fillings!!!! Just kidding!

I'm new to chickens and to Florida. My girls have been teaching me all about the creepy crawlies down here that we didn't have in Michigan. I caught one with a lizard today that looked like something I've only seen in a pet store!
