Eating Poop?

Is it normal for chicks to eat poop? Well I guess I don't know for sure they are eating it, but they are pecking at it.

They're just curious as to what it is.. a lot of times they don't understand what it is or where it came from. I've seen my chicks poo and then turn around and peck at it a few seconds later. As long as they're not actually eating it, don't be concerned.

i hope so mine do it all the time they will even run around with a bit of it likes it's a bug or something

Mine peck it as well don't believe there ingesting it though. lol Normally they wipe there beaks in the shavings after like they have a nasty taste in there mouth, it's funny to watch!

If I could train mine to do that, it sure would make claing the coop easier!

I'm sure they're just taste testing their environment! I've read that serious poop eating can be to do with a B-vitamin shortage (e.g. if the feed was a bit old or stored incorrectly). I wouldn't worry unless they can't seem to stop.

Mine like to eat the poop they do on the Ecoglo before I can reach them to wipe it off. It must be special baked.
