Seems a lot of you sell things on ebay so I thought I would ask about payments. Can you accept payment without using paypal? I have heard horror stories about paypal and would prefer to just accept credit cards or checks.

I think the only type of payment they allow anymore is paypal... Since ebay owns paypal it makes sense - they get you 2 ways now

If you do sell, I wouldn't accept a check from anybody anyway. To risky, even if it's not on purpose. I've caught a few to many people trying to pull a fast one on me, so absolutely no more checks... Good Luck!

I've had no problems with Ebay/PayPal so far. For those who does not want to do PayPal, cashiers check or MO is fine with us too.

As for eggs, it is time sensitive so PayPal is the way to go. Unless you can order ahead of time, we would be more than happy to accept your cashiers or MO.

As for company checks or personal checks, I would not accept them at all. We have been given a check but we had our bank checked out and it was a fraud. Good thing we didn't lose out anything except the processing fee that they charged to do the work to make sure that the check is legit.

As for credit cards, some business do accept those, but I do not. Granted many of them dont because of the additional fees added on to it but they can pass the cost to the customers.

I've been on Ebay for years and have never had a problem with Paypal, either. In fact, once I recieved a refund from Paypal because my item never arrived and the seller refused to refund my money. The main thing I love about Paypal is that other people don't actually see your account information. I don't mind sharing personal information when I'm dealing with a reputable, established company but Ebay is a different story. I now specify in my auctions that I only accept Paypal.

Ebay has changed their LAWS a lot lately. Don't get me wrong, it got my business off the ground with WAY high costs, and ridiculous feedback rules that just got to the point of 'worse'. Ebay has made it law that you HAVE to use paypal (they have stake in paypal, they own it... they make even MORE money off of the sale now that the buyer has to use paypal. ) Their prices have gone up on listings again, and they now do not allow sellers to leave negative feedback!? Apparently, the ebay has made the decision that the seller is only worth having when they get paid! Its cruel actually.

I would suggest going to Etsy.com to save money on your selling and having a real store front kind of selling option. I like it much better, more personal and you decide on how to take payment!

I hate PayPal but that's me. When it works it's great. When it doesn't it's not. Periodically, for reasons I have never been able to determine, it decides I don't exist. Or that I am not authorised to make that transaction. Or it gives me a message saying seller refuses payment. Which is always news to seller. When that happens I contact seller and we go on to Plan B, whatever we decide Plan B should be. Usually a cashiers check.

I have never sold anything on eBay but I have purchased quite a bit of stuff. I have paid with PayPal, personal check, and cashiers check, depending on the seller. When I have paid by personal check the seller usually didn't ship until the check cleared, which was fine with me.

I love etsy.com, it's been great since I left ebay. BUT- etsy is ONLY handmade items, crafting materials or vintage.

For auction type sales, I like www.onlineauction.com
You can sell anything there and they don't take a cut. And you can choose what type of payments to accept. It's $8.00 per month, flat rate.

ETA, Ebay only allows electronic payments as of last October. No checks or MO's.
