I usually send an email within 24 hours letting the person know if they have to wait a few days. If the eggs are ready to go then they just get the email when I print the label.
Ebayers - How long til you communicate & provide shipping info???

I bought Maran eggs on Ebay as a buy it now on Jauary 24th. My eggs were shipped on 1/31 and I received them February 4th. (Missouri to Oregon) My seller never sent me any e-mails, I only received a tracking order e-mail. I received a dozen eggs and one was "dented". I believe it was that way when packaged beause they were very well wrapped. It looked like it was set down too hard onto another egg.
Only 2 on those eggs hatched. I bought a dozen eggs from a local breeder (found him 3 days after buying the e-bay eggs) and picked them up the day my shipped eggs arrived. 7 of those hatched.
I am not sure if I will buy eggs online again.

This is not the case, I sent eggs last week marked 'call for pick-up' and the post office called the buyer on Sunday morning to come pick up her eggs. So the seller could be one of those and is just waiting for Monday. However, the seller should at least respond to emails, that's just wrong.

Ohmygosh. That makes me think if I don't hear anything by tomorrow I should just plan on going ahead and setting my first batch. Speaking of, that ebayer couldn't have been more awesome! 6 EXTRAS and every one arrived in perfect condition. And I bought those after the other auction. So communicative - let me know when he'd be shipping, then sent the tracking info through paypal, and a seperate email to make sure I got the tracking info. Perfect! Oh what to do, what to do...
You've already gotten the eggs from the other auction? It's possible that the other seller has to use internet at their workplace?

You have a good point. I always check the estimated date of shipping/arrival so I can plan to combine eggs from different sellers.
.....And my post office doesn't offer Sunday pick up - none of the POs in the 2 closest cities to me offer Sunday pick up, so I just make sure to only win auctions early in the week! Also, I try to buy from sellers close to me - I am trying to determine if that will increase my hatch rate on shipped eggs.

Yes! But they only had to come from here in NC. I didn't expect that the other auction would get here so quickly. Auction ended at 2:00 on Wednesday. I paid for it immediately. That night paid for my second batch and got my shipping info for it the next day. So I decided to just send the seller a quick note about when to expect shipping so I could make sure it was going to work out ok. Never heard back.

How do you do a staggered hatch!??? I've never even done a normal hatch!!! Hahaha - oh jeez. The things I get myself into. Okay, if the eggs are coming from within your state you should get them in 1-2 days. I've had times here in KY where they took longer, but that's uncommon. So you should have them by Wednesday. So if you already have the eggs from the other seller, you can wait until Sunday evening to set those, it won't hurt them. Then when you get the eggs on Wednesday, let them 'rest' for 6-8 hours or (even better) you can put them in the incubator but not in the turner for the first day. This should make the eggs about 1 1/2-2 days different in setting times, which isn't really a staggered hatch. It would be like eggs that were set at the same time where some hatched a day early and some a day late...problem solved.
Now if the eggs take longer than Wednesday to get to you you probably won't be able to do it like that. In that case, I would set the eggs (2nd) as soon as you can (6-8 hours of resting), hopefully this will be within the week. When the first set goes into 'lockdown', just leave the other eggs in there. At that point in time (2+ weeks incubation) the embryos are big enough to turn themselves and you won't have to turn them. They'd hatch a few days after the first set but it shouldn't affect them. Or you could skip the first part (setting set #1 on Sunday) and just do it this way, that way both eggs would be set ASAP and you should have the best outcome

Well Im a real newbie... Ive only hatched one time and just recently. But from everything I've seen on here.. I think staggering a hatch is something to be avoided, at least I would. Some I think with tons of experience, or a seperate hatcher, do well with staggering, but it doesent sound like most do.
If I were you, I'd stick my present batch of eggs in the 'bator and then send the seller of the others an email. I'd say that since there was such a delay in initial communication from them... even just letting you know the ETA... that you really do require they hold off on the shipment and send them to you in 3 weeks... or give you a refund. Explain the circumstances.
I'm really NOT for taking back a payment or posting negative feedback in almost any circumstance... but really? They make you wait that long for an ETA and ignore your inquiries? They should at least be willing to send your batch in 3 weeks. One of the nice ladies on here says thats not too long to combine chicks together in a brooder, so it should work. If they wont do it for whatever reason, then you should ask for a refund so you can buy another batch of the kind you wanted in 3 weeks from someone else. If they wont do that then I would mention speaking to Paypal.... but I would probably never do it, myself LOL!
But if you decide to go ahead and accept them, I'm sure some others with experience staggering hatches on here will help you!
I'll only mention what I keep parroting on here that I read on some university website, that might help you with lockdown If you're hand turning.. otherwise just ignore this LOL.. Supposedly, turning the eggs after day 14 is no longer strictly necessary (their words).. so you should be able to stop turning the second set of eggs when you lockdown the first (if they aren't more than 4 days apart), so you're not upsetting the temperature and humidity.
