EC, can you answer a genealogy question?

Ladies, now you've done it--sent me on a history search!! This is so interesting.

I just had to google Henry VII. We have questions about English history all the time on the TV show, Jeopardy. My son has been a Roman history buff since he was a teenager and he is still amazed at the Roman engineering and discipline.

My dad mentioned the dark Irish, referring to his mother's family. He was a history buff too but probably didn't know the history of the dark Irish. He knew about the Armada and that the Romans were "travelers." DH teases me and calls me "swarthy." I always take it as a compliment and say thank you! Family joke. My mother's Welsh side had black, curly hair. Out of seven children, only one had straight hair. It's interesting to hear your comments about such things. History books leave out a lot.

I love the Tudor era.

I am fascinated by Henry VIII and his search for the perfect wife which led him to marry 6 different (and interesting) personalities.

We watched Young Bess with Jean Simmons the other day and while not exactly to history, it was a lot better than I have seen lately. Maybe more integrity in filmaking in the 50's.

I did history in school, so I learned a bit about the Tudors there, but I finished a degree in English and History in 2000.

My specialist area in University was the Industrial Revolution and Palaeography, reading old documents and transcription of Latin documents.

So I was very much focussed on the History of Industrial Archaeology and Social History in Wales.

We had to study everything from the Bronze age through and then specialise in our best area.

it was really great spending all my time living History.lol...

Wish I was back there now.......

When I was small I was always told that I could not be welsh ( I was born here?) because I had such curly hair. Welsh people usually have straight hair.

Ok Fine, my father was from Scotland and I am mixed up with Scots/ Irish and even Indian somewhere down the line. i used to say I was just a mongrel.

Then while I was in University I learned that there were 5 tribes in Wales during the Iron Age, that did battle with the Romans later, and in the area that I live now the tribe called the Silures, were the only tribe in Wales with curly hair and a red tinge in their black hair..... lol.... so I was given the nick name of the Celt. lol.....

Plus when visiting a Roundhouse I was the only one short enough not to choke on the fumes off the fire. They did not have a chimney, the smoke would permeate through the thatch, but that meant a haze in the top of the building so the six foot tall guys were very uncomfortable in there.....lol. Some times it was good to be the eldest there and also the smallest.....lol.

So I am either a throw back or a total cheat somewhere down the line.

It really is great to learn about the past, and how they lived.

one day maybe we will be of interest to kids in school too.
