EDITED EMERGENCY! - What do you guys think? Please help!

I'm shedding tears,
From looking at the chick, it seemed to have passes yesterday night RIP ❤️
Its yolk was pretty small, but it was still there.
I'm planning on burying the chick tomorrow, as its too dark outside.

The chick was positioned wrong.
The head was nearer to the pointy side rather than the fat bottom.
❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
I'm sorry :hugs
It's okay to grieve. I cried a lot after seeing my chick had passed, and I buried her under my apple tree. That was before I hatched my ducks. Very very sad. But someday I'm sure you'll hatch some successfully and the sadness will heal

Thank you, ❤️ :hugs
It means a lot :)

I have 3 more quail eggs siblings going into lockdown in 2 days :)

I am so sorry. It happens at times no matter what happened before. So try not to beat yourself up over it.

What really shakes me is if I hadn't dropped a egg on top of it, it probably would have hatched.. its all my fault :hit
Hopefully I can learn next time, I shouldn't candle the other eggs during lockdown, staggered hatching is so hard.

With it malpositioned it may not have made it even if you didn't drop the other egg on it so you can't be sure that is what happened.

I do agree a staggered hatch is very hard.

It's definitely easier to not candle the other eggs during lockdown, but a top tip for the future: if ever you need to candle an egg but don't want to be picking it up- use the flashlight on your phone, and hold the phone inside the incubator, to the egg gently, you should be able to see inside without handling the egg. I did this most of the times that I candled my eggs, to prevent the risk of dropping them.

NO, it's not your fault. You don't know that. I dropped an egg on top of another one recently, both cracked, one had a dent in it. They both hatched successfully. One had a black eye and some bleeding from the injury, but it didn't die.

More likely, it died due to being malpositioned. Chicks often drown in their own fluids when this happens. You could not have known nor prevented it. Of course, it could have died from other reasons we will probably never know. {{{hugs}}}

Thanks both for your suggestions!
The oil is doing its job and the membrane is staying moist.

I'm not gone for too long, about 5 hours maybe?
I'm also coming home from work to moist the membrane before departing.

Eggs are just so magical. I've talked to the egg, seeing I don't have anything better to do, and the chick moved! Every few words, it would twitch. When I stopped, it stopped. So amazing, really hoping it hatches! :jumpy :fl

My pattern for adding the oil is now:
7A.M
3P.M
7P.M
10P.M

However, tomorrow I may have to tweak the routine.

7A.M
3P.M
8-9P.M
I have just cracked one of my eggs on day 17, any suggestions? I will put the vaseline on the crack as people have suggested.
