EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quote: How do you feel this morning my seasond freind?
If I felt any better I couldn't stand it, Benny. I hope you're the same. Almost there, I am working on it!

Did you hunt something? I did indeed; they weren't in a cooperative mood, however; may have better luck this evening, depending on when the Packers game is over. What you are hunting for? Dear? Boars? Do you eat black bears?
Whitetail deer. I've never tasted bear meat. Dad did; said it's pretty good. I'd like to try hunting wild boar; we don't have them near me. They're a big nuisance in the south, though. I think Texas has an open season on them year around, no limit on how many you can take. They breed worse than rabbits!

I can only "audition" so many (at least at one time). For instance, I'd LOVE to audition your Penedesencas, but I couldn't do them justice housing-wise right now. That being said, I really love the look of those buttercups.... Maybe I'll try them one day when I'm looking for more layers. (The only birds I have who lay eggs a little like that are the Speckled Sussex, and they go to a new home next weekend - I like a varied egg basket).

Hatching or straight run chicks --> lots of boys --> only so many boys you can keep without them trying to kill each other or the pullets --> freezer camp. If there's a lot of space and housing, you can keep a number in bachelor pens if they behave, but that's limited... :/

This is my problem with it. The way my life/work goes, usually dark in the morning when I leave anyway, but in summer I can't really get chores (cleaning waterers, scooping poop, filling feeders - the essentials) done in the morning whether it's light or not. I have to get them done when I get home. So if it's dark when I get home... :(  I got the automatic doors and they work well, but they DO need clean water/clean coops/food... (Grrrrrrrrrrrr.......)

This is why I'm not getting a goat until my responsibilities at work settle down more.
Morning, MC!!!!  :frow

I LOVE this photo!!!!! She's so adorable.:love
Isbars are on a low tier wish list for me. I am not in a hurry to get them, but it would be neat to try them one day. Ayam cemani (which autocorrects to "Adam cement, if you were curious) is like that as well - might be nice to try them. I'm trying to reign myself in so I can focus on my projects for a little while and not keep turning my homestead on its head with constant big changes in bird numbers/plans.

Well, I WAS going to go out and get started early on digging those apple tree holes (it's taking FOREVER) and clearing and planting the garden (spinach and garlic/perennial onion and herb beds are next). But it's pouring out - big (loud) thunderstorm. So I'm drinking coffee and reading BYC instead. Once I wake up I'll start some of the indoor "to dos" and hopefully it will have stopped raining by then. Don't get me wrong - we really need the rain. It just sort of rearranged my day for me.

OK, soooooo... laundry, clean bathroom, cook eggs for chickens, can dilly beans, sort piled up mail from the week... I have plenty to do. Buuuuuuuuut... I think I'll just put a load of laundry in, make some more coffee, and come back here for a little bit.

:hugs Thank you.

Good morning all. Special good morning to MC, Duckling and Spider (did you ever find him?) also special good morning to the busted wing club :gig :frow

Spider is often in her room. I am looking for a replacement. If I do not find one that is identical in all ways, I will get several of them, and hope that I can take the original away. She isn't stupid, she will know that a different color means there's more than one. She will demand all of them at once if she knows.
As it is, she honestly does love that stupid spider. Her unicorn, Acorn is the first stuffed animal she's gotten attached to.

Dax are you going to keep all the new goats you have?

I love venison, antelope, and moose. I don't remember much about bear except the jerky was too strong, but I :love venison jerky.

No, I plan on keep two dairy babies from my top does as insurance, and one of the meat kids. The rest will be sold to get the money to finish fencing my land. If each of my ten does has twins that will buy the fencing and their hay for the year. The next season, will hopefully yeild a profit, or at least enough to by feed and upkeep costs for most of my others. The two cows are already feeding themselves and me :D

It sounds like a good plan! :thumbsup
You processed one of your cows/steers?
Do you process goats? In what age you process them? I would buy one of your 10 month males! They are WONDERFUL!

Well, I spent fifteen minutes sitting watching and talking to my goats and the babies this morning if that counts?
@Akrnaf2

No.
Rest is also seating under one of your trees drinking nice beer and eating something good, enjoying life!
Don't forget that you don't live to work you work to live!
