EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

hmmm will their matings give white females and buff males then?  interesting and cant wait to see them

Im assuming if they can draw heat laying on roost it can keep them warm no?  if free of drafts?  what do I know I could put above the roost I guess?  I have a heat pad on low in Sammy the conure cage and its L shaped with a hand towel over it, he lays on it and up against it where it folds upright.  he didnt hesitate to hang out in his new warm spots let me tell you, was there in less than a minute

Yes it will I saw the dryer vent you were speaking of. I think that will work. I agree it takes them seconds to find the heat.

Quote: thats what we are discussing, chicks get heat from above from mom, adults too I would assume? thinking about this but I would think they COULD draw enough heat from roosting on heat??
and how to regulate that heat ughhh

@Sally Sunshine I also put out oyster shell too so that may have helped. Well, with the things that don't seem right, let's add the production red that has been in the same nest box two nights in a row. A broody production red?????
could be how does she act when you get her out?

I have not tried yet. I took eggs the first night, and got the stink eye. I will see if she is there tonight. I do think chicks in December sounds smart.

What's CMT?

Someone had chronic waste disease in their captive herd here. The state wanted to make certain it didn't get into the wild population, they went door to door telling people about it and left instructions on how to remove the neck and head and where to drop it off incase you found any dead deer on your property. Then they would take the heads off deer hit by cars/trucks and leave the body. Odd seeing all these dead headless deer laying next to the road.
Road kill is good meat.

Maybe only put the heating rope on 1/2 to 3/4 of the roost board. They could draw heat from below. Heat does rise so that might work. Or maybe put the duct with the rope in it above the board. Maybe have the duct only be 4 inches wide and the roost board be 10. Put the heater at the back of the board so if they get to warm they can just scoot forward on the roost.
