They can't see to roost, and are just in a pig pile by the door now (which is fine for now - I just want to be sure they are all warm tonight, it'll be warmer again tomorrow).[/COLOR] [COLOR=333333]Strategy question: If I want to encourage them to start sleeping in the hen house, but would rather not go through the stress of moving them every night, should I have a low light in there at dusk to lure them in - would that work? Yummy soup. I had turkey and rice soup. My hens roost in mostly open air situation with just a plywood roof over their head. The rest is open. I went out the other night to see what the ruckus was with them. Most weren't even on their protective area roost but on the granite rock in their coop. The ruckus was a deer near their coop. Two or three are still in molt. A light at night will do more harm than good I'm afraid.

Yummy! If you did a light you would want it on a timer and only like 15-20min after sunset Or you could wait until it gets cold and lock them in for a couple weeks and reacquaint them with 'home'

Started with 15 quail, pulled 1 blood ring, 3 inferts and 1 early death (I think) if have to count but I don't want to disturb too much , I will randomly pull 1 or 2 at night to check (when pulling the other hens egg out from under the broody)

It's hard for broody when it's an open situation with other hens laying. How many days left? Can imagine her surprise when the quail hatch.
