EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My friend has
Have the chickens shown any interest in it?
I have not tried to give them any. I have not gotten any established here yet. My friend has it, and she feeds it to my goat and hers regularly.
It's a good day to take a ride! Hahaha we just found out they're four hours away- a bit further than what I planned.
Shoot, you could order the required amount from Hoover Hatchery and get free shipping. Then sell the extras on Craigslist for what you will spend in gas.

Sugar snap peas and snow peas, silly! They're so yummy!!!

I was going to plant Austrian winter peas for them this fall, but ran into a roadblock when the beds I wanted to use were all invaded with bermuda grass - I will need to dig it all out before the spring planting. Maybe next year...
Hmmmm... I will note this. Raw?

You know that both Comfrey and Jerusalem artichoke are invasive, right? (Not meaning it's bad to grow them, just to keep an eye on them...) I was looking both of them up online and ran into a number of horror stories.

Yes Hubbard squash raw. Sometimes broken, but mostly I just put it in the runs whole. Another squash they like looks like the Cinderella pumpkin but I'm not sure it is. I got it from a friend just under the size of a basketball with really orange color fruit. She says they are really sweet. I haven't tried them. At this point I'm sure they are a cross of some sort. They kept in my barn throughout last summer setting on shelf. Just fed the last one from last year when this years crop was ready.

Yes comfrey and Jerusalem artichokes are invasive but the chickens wiped them out as in gone. They dug down in the dirt getting every last piece of them. This didn't bother me too much as it turns out I wasn't pleased with that variety, too knobby. The variety I now have is a red and is supposed to be better shaped. The flavor is really good and I hope to utilize it more this fall. I made a mistake harvesting it As it doesn't keep well out of ground.

Not sure about comfrey yet as the one plant I had didn't make it.

Well if they grow as fast as they say I'll have plenty to feed. I ordered 10 rhizomes with plants on them and he sent me 10 root cuttings to plant as well. Instructions say to cut the plant to two inches above the ground and they'll come back.

Also can't catch up anymore...gonna try to tackle finishing my fancy ice chest incubator... but...
(since I did this on mobile version, I can't pick picture quality, hope it's ok)

These two are from Welp... thought they were Bantam originally, but I did want LF myself, and they look to be...one very decent lacing, she's gorgeous, the other not sure if it is horrible lacing or possibly a rooster, though looks hen to me...

Can see the white Laced red (Cornish)to the right also...

Profile Shot (she's usually under my feet when I'm outside but they were eating so the more dominant chickens were causing her to be cautious)

White Laced Red (just in case you like those too, her lacing is messy, but she's what's left of the two I didn't sell, the other passed a day after I sold the other three, dang it)

If you happen to have a lap top and a webcam (not integrated into the screen lid), I use a web cam that I point down with a towel over to keep condensation down, light aimed in the side...laptop sits to where I can see from my bed :D Then I can fall asleep while watching and pop an eye open through out the night to see. I didn't do that last hatch and one managed to rotate in the shell and suffocate, and another freakin wedged between the flooring and water well below drowning... sucked.

Now! My original reason to show up right now was...

I posted a few months ago a silver chick... was to be a splash Maran... posted a video of it fighting my hand at 3 days old... it did that for a few weeks...spunky full of character little snot that I grew very attached to. I assumed this whole time it's going to be a boy...has to be a boy...comb came up quickly, was pinker than others... well today I think I'm confident enough to say I was wrong... I think I have a beautiful hen...it would be so awesome, since I'm not supposed to have roosters... here "She" is now... @15wks old...

Very nice. The white ones seem to do that. I had a white one that was very alert and a bit aggressive that everyone thought was a cockerel except junebuggena. She was right.
She is still getting her feathers back from her first molt, but here is my green egg laying hen not cockerel.

These ones are same size as the rest they grew with which are LF, They are as tall as my full grown BR...she was my biggest bird, but my OE is already bigger lol... these are around 13wks old... pretty happy with them for eye candy that gives me food on occasion :D

Size was hard to tell in photo. Mine are much smaller than some of my smallest hens. Quality of the roosters wasn't any better. No two looked the same combs were different as well just a bad batch all around.
