EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I am sorry. Maybe she'll come back?
Thanks, but I doubt it. She was the bottom of the pecking order in her coop. A very timid hen. Unfortunately, she was the last surviving hen from my first cock as she was hatching when the others got ms. The only other two from that group are sex links from my br and Lavender Orpington cockerel.

OMG, don't tempt me!!! I already have SOOOOOOO many more chickens than I should! I just came back in after looking at my freezer and deciding I need to eat a lot more chicken to make room for all the culls I'll have to have this year

Us too. We have about 10 years worth of chicken in th freezer... I am so glad God made vacuum packers so the meat lasts forever.....we may never need chicken, sauerkraut or broccoli for the rest of this life and half of the next......

Can I interest anyone in10 gallons of sauerkraut ?

It hurts my heart to know I was in a hurry putting the chickens up because of the game yesterday and somehow miscounted so a hen is gone. I assume dead

Not necessarily; more than once I've had one of mine meet me at the gate next morning after locking up in the dark.

Nelson's been released from the hospital, and may be able to practice Saturday, if at all...at least 2 fractured ribs.

If you throw in 3 free guineas with it I'll take it.

It happens sometimes. I know it doesn't make you feel better - but my daughters chicken white freckles threw a tantrum about people taking her eggs, so she hopped a fence, right into a trio of dogs that promptly ate her :(

Do you think it's possible she "disappeared" before you put the others away? Sometimes chickens do dumb things. :(

Naw - I know duck is tasty, but in all honesty, I really DO have too much poultry in the freezer right now (since I had a lot of culls last year who were raised with my pullet with ALV), and it seems wasteful to put even more there. I just pulled another two little ones out to thaw - more chicken soup!

And I have all these chicks coming - no matter how you slice it, that's a lot of cockerels to cull!!!

I think I'm going to try pressure canning chicken this year - less freezer space taken up - I read the thread on BYC, and it seems that if you do it right, with an old enough bird, it turns out well. (Not so much for the little ones...)

No, but I will SERIOUSLY take all your broccoli. I can eat broccoli every day of my life as long as I have butter, salt and pepper. ^.^
