EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quick question about turning eggs...If they are hatching on a flat, non-tilting surface, should they be turned 180 degrees entirely at every turning? Or just rolled a little each time? And, alternately, if I have a platform of eggs in Styrofoam cartons that CAN be tilted (the whole platform at once), should it tilt from one slope ALL THE WAY to the opposite slope all at once? From reading the Incubation information post that Sally wrote, it says somewhere at least 38 degrees. So 38 degrees one way and then 38 degrees the other way? I drew a pic just to try to explain what I'm saying:
I hatch on flst surface, I draw an "O" on one side and an "x" on the other. And turn it from one to the other oad numbers of time a day.

i am not sure if either work better or have better results, i do 180* 3 or 5x a day

That's what I did for my first hatch. I was trying to keep from having to open the lid on the incubator this time, so I built a flat platform that is already on a slope one way, then attached a string on the low end and through the lid so I can pull it up to the opposite angle. But I don't think I am going to be able to do the suggested 38 degrees that way. Should I just incubate them flat and turn them by hand if that is the case?

I read 38* on your incubation information page, Sally Sunshine. Can you chime in??

@Sally Sunshine Not sure if that is how you do that, but it's worth a try!

I use GQF incubators I am thinking your diagram looks to be about the same angles my incubator turns them. If that helps.

And I just set eggs! After that long sub-zero stretch and a million frozen cracked eggs, I set 79 eggs.

15- Polish
11- Yokohamas
7- Cuckoo Maran
13 - Toads
38 legbar (cream and white mainly, with a few crele gold)
4-Partridge Chanticler (freeloaders!!)

it probably doesnt really matter -a hen doesnt know what degree she turns, but she is continually moving them
dunno, my last hatch was 87% hatch rate on their sides, turned 3x a day 180*

Good Morning all, thanks for the coffee lovely Abi!

Unfortunately, my LO rooster attacked me from behind again today. I thought the event last week was a fluke and accidental as we spooked each other. But, today, was most definitely not an accident, and I have the gashes to prove it! ~sigh~ I guess he has just reached that age where he's showing out.

I really wanted to keep him, he is so beautiful! Can't keep him around if he is going to be violent though, not worth the risk of him hurting my daughter.

Should I try to sell him or just try to give him away??? Be nice to get a few dollars for him anyway.
I went through the same thing with mine a while back. I was literally two seconds away from pulling the trigger, then thought about what I had invested in him (3 hours each way to pick him up), my end goal of getting darker eggs, & the fact that I'd have to go on a search for a replacement & start all over again, so I backed down. Besides, I didn't want to do something in anger that I'd regret later...been down that road too many times already.

That was about 6 months ago. Since then, he's been a perfect gentleman, with a single exception; when he & all his ladies were in the coop for the night & I was cleaning out the track that the door slides in, he half-heartedly pecked me. Other than that, he's been no trouble, in or out of the run.

On the other hand, we don't have short people around here to be concerned about. Tough call. You might try the same thing Kristen suggested to me at the time; keeping a super soaker water "pistol" handy. So far, I've had to use mine only once.
