Fantastic!! Second row and you got to meet him in that awesome looking place, how awesome is that! He always talks so well, appealing to the young and old, new and not so new.. makes difficult subjects more accessible(and therefore fascinating) etc, that's just amazing. I like that representation of tree of life..

Thanks for the update, maybe for the next time, bring out the phone and show pictures of the
I think you got cut off there Kev!

But I THOUGHT of showing photos of the eggs in the incubator (if that was what you were going to say), but we only had seconds before it was time for the next person. I was indeed tempted, though.

I've listened to him so much that I wondered whether there would be anything new or interesting in this, other than it being neat to see him in person. But he is CAPTIVATING!!!! I can't imagine what it would have been like to have him as a professor! Super, super guy...

Oh wow!! That is so fabulous!!!!!!

It surely, surely was!!!!!

AC eggs look fertile I think though it is just 3 days

Awesome!!!! (Adam Cemani?) I would love some of those - as if I need more chickens...

GOOD MORNING, TO THOSE OF YOU THAT THINK CAFFEINE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN SOAP! AND A VERY AWKWARD MORNING TO THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE TO SMELL US. HOPEFULLY, THE COFFEE GROUNDS FALLING OUT OF OUR CREVICES DON'T FALL ON YOU.

Well, coffee smells good, and it can cover up other odors... I don't see the problem.
That pic is kind of what I feel like this morning... Movin' slow... I can use all the virtual coffee you can send my way - thanks!!!

With the warm weather, I have just been really busy..

I have an egg eating problem I am dealing with, I think it means I need to build all rollaway nest boxes...
idunno.gif
Ugh. For what it's worth, when I had an egg eating problem, I was looking into rollaway nest boxes (and dreading it because some of them are picky about where they lay), and I mentioned it on another thread, and Beekissed posted about nutrition and egg eating. I was convinced it was behavioral, but I tried changing their food and gave more protein, and it stopped right away. Others have added cat kibble temporarily and had that and feather picking stop right away. You may have already tried that, but just sayin'.

Morning everyone

Funny greeting Abi

Take the beer Dan you'll always get more eggs.

It's raining still.

Power went out yesterday as well. Wife put a warm water bottle in with the chicks without asking.
yesss.gif
I fear she's hooked. Said that I wasn't putting them in the barn yet it's too stormy and the power might go out it's warmer in the house.
My old "Keeping Poultry and Chickens on Scraps" (written in WWII-era Britain) describes a "Mama Heating Pad" type heat source for chicks, but with hot water bottles. You build a box, and you run dowels through it at the desired height, and lay the bottle on top, and you switch them as they get cool. A non-electricity option...

Hope your power starts staying on more consistently soon, though!!!!

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, guess I'll go eat worms....
I like you! I like you!!!!

Now I need to announce something... Duckling has been dry all day for three days. She even went through two nights, and a nap (or was it two of those too?) dry.
celebrate.gif

The irony is that when I had her done last March, she was dry 24/7.

Yeah - it's how she gets away with so much. At least now I don't have to chase her - she just walks up to me and looks up at me waiting for me to pick her up.

Thanks - it was really super! But I was out past my bedtime, so I'm dragging' this morning...

Liz I'm not quoting that.

I went this morning to check the traps and saw more feathers on the edge of the pond and a clump of ducks exactly in the middle of the pond. The traps were empty, but as I crossed the bridge a great big hawk flew away. Big enough to carry off a duck that size, or leisurely pick at a carcass all day.
rant.gif

It didn't look like the Cooper's hawk that I usually see, so I need to look up LA raptors again. I left the traps set and I got all six survivors locked in their house. The extra feathers were from my failed attempt to catch one last night and pulled her tail out.

Survivors' breakfast.
hugs.gif

Glad you got the rest locked up. How big are your ducks - was looking at the Holderread book, and he says that Hawks will rarely take down any duck over 3 lbs, but eagles will. Any chance what you saw was an eagle?

I was out in the yard a few weeks ago, and there were a number of VERY LARGE buzzards flying over (I think a deer must have died nearby). I can only tell them from hawks after having really worked at it. But I looked at the birds, and they didn't even blink. No concern at all about these giant flying birds going over (and they are very good at duck-and-cover when there's a hawk anywhere over their "airspace"). So I wanna know how in the world they can tell a buzzard from a hawk or eagle that far up!

That looks AWESOME!!!!

So this is actually "chicken" related...
I dont have kids and my group of serama friends and I do a lot with 4H kids to help them breed raise and show better birds and learn. Bill has helped Allie, Laureen has helped Jeremy and Alex is now my 4H friend that I am mentoring since we are both newer to the hobby... He got an incubator for xmas and I gave him some of my hatching eggs from my breeder pens (which i don't usually do) Sooo proud of him!!! 7/12 hatched!!!
wee.gif
I think he has 2 malaysians in there too!!!

Super - and I LOVE that photo! As if my chicks would stand still like that...

OK, I need to go. Later all!!!

Quote: It was really nice of her teacher. They have this ap they use and parents can get on it too, and its just like texting, but teacher can send out a class image or anything, we have been keeping in touch that way, she wants to come see her but not sure she really wants anyone near her, she basically hibernates in a bedroom, going from bed to bed. ugggg

Hi campin, not so good. HarmonyAnn was in ER per doc request, had extremely elevated WBC in urine, so they consulted Penn State Hershey specialists and they gave her IV antibiotics and a few hours of relieve with pain meds through iv. and sent her home with antibiotics. Back to doc monday. Today is her 12th bday and I feel terrible, she is miserable today but at least the school class called and sang to her and that made her smile. how bout yours> ??
Rotten as always. DD gets to be my favorite person for the week because she found the heating pad for me. We had a meeting at school for bubba yesterday, his scores are drastically improved and speech is getting better. Did you see their 100 days projects?

He was complaining the past couple days about all the birds cause the coops need cleaning and I can't do it.. and the fact I took over the garage, basement and spare bedroom :hide   He's fine once its done but he has been on 7 day for 2 months straight so i know he is tired. How do I tell him about the 7 fertile goose eggs that are due to hatch on 1/25 :ep :hide

Don't tell him.

Quote: Sally, that is AMAZING! Wow! Happy, happy goats!!!!!
