Anyone read this...  Chickens vaccinated against Marek’s disease rarely get sick. But the vaccine does not prevent them from spreading Marek’s to unvaccinated birds.

In fact, rather than stop fowl from spreading the virus, the vaccine allows the disease to spread faster and longer than it normally would, a new study finds. The scientists now believe that this vaccine has helped this chicken virus become uniquely virulent. (Note: it only harms fowl). The study was published on Monday in the journal

I'll have to read that one. I did read a bunch of stuff about this though about a month ago. I was trying to decide if I should start vaccinating my chicks against it. I decided not to.

Oh, wow! Now after looking at the pics of day 14&15, I am not sure at all. Hmm, it's a silkie mix egg. In the past the silkie eggs I had incubated have hatched about 24 hours sooner than LF.
So I need to keep a closer eye on this one, and start looking for a place to get a possible brooder friend.
Darn tractor supply won't just sell 1 anymore, they require min of 6!!
Ok, thank you for those pics. I have not come across those before!

No I haven't. I do know I've put them together without a problem before. They only time I've had problems is when I brought other chicks in that had Mareks. They past their quarantine period. Fortunately they were still somewhat by themselves.

Morning Mel. Hope the wrist is setting down
it will be Tuesday_ I see the surgeon!

I had to call in Thursday-pain was bad & didnt sleep. Had to take something stronger than usual and thats against company policy. so since I am on workmans comp, I walk a very fine line. I would have been better off dropping a case of bee...... coffee on it at home

I hope I never have to deal with Marek's... it sounds just awful.
