EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I am doing this to keep all the breeds separate, and to keep the lines straight. Otherwise I would need to set up 9 different brooders, run 9 different heat sources, and 9 different grow out pens.

I already have 15 breeding pens.

I sell some of these I need to be able to tell Toads from White Legbars at 2-5 days of age.

I needto tell Cuckoo Maranm, Dominique and barred rock chicks apart with 100% certainty. So I have to take the risk. It was a hard thing to decide to do, I only did it after talking to a lot of breeders and seeing their results. None of them mentioned infection by anything as a problem.

I have tried fingernail polish, bands and none of them work well.

So you didn't get the RIGHT coffee!

No, I just like drinking coffee.

Indeed! That is a phrase I have learned here!
Do you guys have any funny work week sayings?

Iet me think. .....

Yes, Tuesday is considered as a good day! Because in the book of Genesis The all mighty said twice " it was good" in this day, "פעמיים כי טוב" so it is nicknamed "פעמיים כי טוב"
And people prefer to wed in this day, and sign deals if they can, inTuesday.

A positive verses negative focus. That is something I am trying to learn in my approach. To in all things give thanks.

Oh ok if thats the one she sent then i have no doubts it should work. I was thinking i recalled you having one of the brinsea spot checks. As far as calibration goes it has been mentioned and as was also mentioned without being familiar with that exact model i not of much assistance. For the humidity question it has been answered numerous times directly to you. Its not a set number and is irrelevant either way if your not calibrated. It takes practice with your particular incubator and knowing your incubator and equipment to have everything fall into place.
Do you keep notes of your individaul hatches? Some people like notes some do not. It makes it easy to be able to look back and compare what worked, what didnt, what changes you made and if they were the correct changes. A typical hatch for me will include about 10-15 pages worth of notes in a standard size notebook. Im a note taker, others might not be.
out of ovates

Started collecting from my bacyard mixes. Start the count at 4, plan to collect for about a week and set on the 1st of Feb.
awesome!!

Not here...

I got my first turkey egg of the season today... This is not good, it is 2 months too early and I am not ready for them. I do not even have them in breeding pens yet...Who knows what is in that egg. or if it is a mutt. I do not do mutts, so this egg is becoming an omelet.
yay!!! i want turkeys! someday, once its warm out

no but won't they dry out
no, that is the point you want them to lose moisture but not too much, you know this you have incubated before
start at 40%, candle at d10 and mark ACs post a picture, i will help when i am on, others will try to help but stop questioning all of the advice we give you
we will let you know our opinions

I run 45-50 during the first 18 days.
thats too high here, i have to start around 35%, otherwise ACs are way too small

Puppy eggs go into lock down tomorrow!!!!!

Pigeon just likes when I talk to her in my "weird" voice and ask her "Pigeoy, where yo babies at"

lol
So just found this little bugger on Craigslist.

We need a new dog, but are basset hounds good with chickens and other animals?
any animal can be good or bad, its all in how its brought up
I also see that it helps peope "decide" whether they can afford to properly care for an animal... easy to take a cheap dog but my rescue baby was just at the vet with a bill just short of $400. he has been healthy so far-his pancreas just flared up. Mre $$ tomorrow and IV fluids and an ovenight stay if his labs arent better

so sorry!
The house has been quiet tonight. Dreamy was the only one who really made any noise or fuss, she was always howling. Our other two dogs, Rocky and Sparkles have just been laying around sleeping, quietly.

You are a far better person than I. I cannot even pretend to skim read, I out and out skipped the last umpteen pages. I hope I did not miss anything juicy..

I toe punched for the first time and moved yesterday's hatch.
so the toe punch is just to mark the foot? you dont put anything in it?
sorry i know people do it, i just didnt know the reasoning behind it
So not been On in a few days. now that I come back on tonight I notice that I left off on page 918 and now you guys are on 951. It's hard to keep up on these posts you guys all talk so fast. Hahaha I hope everyone is doing great I'm not able to go back and read every single last post. My hat has went great I have 11 chicks and one turkey poult and they are growing so good, Feathering nicely. they mostly have the same generic type Feathering pattern so far with the exception of two. The two barred rocks are growing great however one is already developing bars the other hasn't yet should I be concerned?
Congrats!
