EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

It's going to be extremely hard to recommend one from a big box store based on the fact that you don't really know what is available until you get there. There were a few recommendations that @ChickenCanoe gave you.

Brinsea Spot Check

https://www.brinsea.com/p-394-spot-check-digital-incubator-thermometer.aspx

And a ThermoWorks that I don't remember the link of.

I suspect both of these will be online purchases though and will not be found in store.
but that's spot check with a probe not one that sits with the eggs

I still haven't processed the ducks!!

Why would you process my ducks???
Because ducks aren't worth the trouble. All webbed birds need to die.

They would be easier to travel with...

I kid! I kid!

Here's my egg skelter in my kitchen this AM (forgive the mess - that's on the to do list as well). You can see the lighter blue eggs (Jenny) and the deeply saturated blue green eggs (Lissa and the Three Witches). The color of blue eggs is always really hard to get on camera - direct sunlight is best for accuracy in the hue, I find... - Ant Farm [/quote] This are wonderful eggs! I must say to you !כל הכבוד

In a pinch my best recommendation would be a simple digital medical grade thermometer. Not ideal for the setting but cheap, more accurate than any indoor/outdoor combo you will find, and readily available. If you can hold off a day or two I would try to order one of the others.
cant order don't have credit card.leaving now to go to TSC

Vet was out here tonight. She got me the bute powder, but there's a lump on the horses side. she's going to ask around to see who can do horse labs, and where to send them, and where to dispose of a horse.

She said she'd rate the horse a 7/10 1 being the best, 10 being the worst.

The horse is willing to eat, but not drink - even the "sweet feed" tea we've been marking her, she'll slurp out the water and spit the water out on the ground to get to the sweet feed. So, drinking is going to be a MAJOR problem for her, if she continues to refuse to drink water.

It's going to get 100-110 in just a few weeks, and I NEED her to drink water :(

She said she could give her fluids via a nose tube, and IV fluids - but those are "temporary" solutions. We are going to give her a week on the pain meds, and see about doing labs to see what else might be going on - she wants her to be a 5 by next thursday, or better.

If she's not.......... then she told us to start preparing to say goodbye :(

sorry Kaj, I know we discussed this on the phone, but remember the pain from RA it can get very terrible if it cant be treated right, and an animal I am not certain ever can without tons of cash.. hugs beautiful

From this mornings candle.
very cool! @BantyChooks

I was not impressed with the Rees line CCL I got from a breeder or GFF.

When I first got mine I was not impressed with anything but the cool blue eggs. They seemed flighty and not overly productive. But with each generation I have grown to really like them, they are some of my calmest best birds now. I can walk in the coop and touched almost any of them without too much protesting. They are not the flighty birds I once though they were..

I also have been hatching only the bluest eggs for myself. Because of the demand for legbars I hatch most of their eggs, but sell most the chicks.

At this point I have not sold a white one. I am selfish and building my flock before I sell any. I did happen to look at the availability of whites and the number hatched on Meyers Hatchery web page and I think I have more whites than they do, so I should start selling some thing spring.

I am actually considering selling all the colored legbars and only keeping the whites in the future. If and when the whites are recognized by the APA I will do that for sure.

I have a random chicken poop question...

Any idea what would cause this (I don't even know what it is)??? They look like tiny little pale yellow balls almost.

Thoughts?
