True, but I'm Banti, not "Article Editor"

I'm not certain why they don't mention it in the listing, but it is in walking distance to Meyer Hatchery. :gig

Real doesn't need the quotes.

Hi, thanks!

 Gangaway, I'm moving in!!

The way Winter's shaping up around here, I'd have a 5-minute window to catch a chicken in snow, & overcast skies seldom throw shadows  :gig :clap

I already offered you snow :smack

I'd trade you some snow for this 90 degree heat we are getting an early start on.

You're kidding!!!

And I already declined the offer!

I apologize to those that didn't want the snow to actually come, and/or stick. I bought a new sled last night. I know we haven't gotten the snow here that they've been predicting. Well, I had a feeling this time was for real!

The dog was chasing the birds around. He must have figured they needed to warm up!

@ChickenCanoe I have had turkey hens hatch chickens and Guineas, a turkey is graceful, a Toad is not. Unless you see them I do not think you understand how hug these things are. They have massive bodies compared to a turkey. They are much more similar to a BBB or BBW than a heritage turkey.
...
I get that. On occasion I've let a Freedom Ranger or Cornish/Rock reach maturity. The epitome of clumsy. I can just imagine.

The deer are welcome. They're not a problem for me or the garden. Perhaps there's plenty to eat here that they just don't do much damage if any. As browsers, rather than grazers, they tend to nibble here and there as long as there's plenty of food.
My place is a Wildlife Habitat certified by the NWF.

now i am going to have to look up a mud turtle

...
I read a few years ago about people having problems with the Spot Check. It was supposedly a battery issue and they recommended people replace them. I suspect they had a bad run.
My Spot Check and Thermoworks agree perfectly and they both are super fast.
I'll probably buy another of each this year.

I've lost the edge but many years ago I could identify the turtles, lizards and frogs of North America at a glance.
I have never had one go broody yet, but I am sure one will some day..maybe
With the breeds/hybrids you used, you may never get a broody.
That's not how they roll.

my leghorn pullet took forever to get a comb, but when it finally came in it was HUGE
looked like a rooster
I posted a picture of some Ancona pullets on our local chicken meetup group. One of the long time chicken owners asked what breed the black and white spotted roosters were. He couldn't believe they were pullets with the huge combs. Just like most other Mediterranean breeds.
Many Med hens have spurs too.

I'd trade you some snow for this 90 degree heat we are getting an early start on.
Good luck. I couldn't hang.

Temp is not staying steady

What brand incubator?

Do the specs of the thermometer say what the read response time is? (how frequently it samples temp)

If it is close to an instant read, it will swing wildly as the heat element is energized and then cools down before it energizes again.
If it does read that fast, you'll see it rise rapidly when the red/energize light illuminates. Then it will drop slowly till it kicks on again.

That has little to do with internal egg temperature.

A proportional thermostat would hold a steady temp but most incubators are either on or off.

I got some tubs from walmart, I plan on cutting and turning into duck houses. Easy to clean, plastic so not easily rotted or destroyed. And cheap!!! less than 5 dollars per bin.

I don't mind wood - but it's so much harder to clean than plastic. ^.^
i am using milk crates right now, but may look into cat box lids, without the bottom part, just set on the ground

Just a thought:
Old whiskey barrels cut in half would make decent shelter, and have insulative properties that plastic doesn't, and they're light enough that they can be tipped up & hosed out, Only downsides that come to mind are they cost a bit more, and the steel bands need to be screwed down so they don't loosen as the wood shrinks. On the other hand, UV doesn't affect them like it does plastic.
whiskey barrels are SUPER expensive here, over $70 for half of one last i saw, and that was on sale
