EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Some Korean of Japanese thermostat I bought off ebay. It was not plug and play, I have to re-wire the entire incubator to get it to work.

The negative to it (the specs and instructions say) you cannot use a back-up safety wafer on it. Even the new GQF's do not have them.

So I am running with no safety wafer and that makes me nervous.   I only have the digital in one of my incubators and the hatcher.  The other two have wafers, simply because I do not want to take the safety out until I have too,

BUT I do like how steady it holds the temps, but when it fails I know I will lose every egg in it.

Wow, you all are making me nervous. I just have one wafer, hope it doesn't ever fail...

I have a wafer thermostat in my cabinet incubator and electronic in my hatcher. Both have proven to be extremely reliable and stable. Right now, my front wafer in the cabinet is out so I'm running it only on the backup. Is a gamble but it's been working great. It worked most of last summer and so far this year.

I just found out that we're expecting 5-8 inches of snow overnight tonight :/ It was almost 60° yesterday and the snow all melted. I wasn't expecting more already! I knew nothing about it till my daughter came home from school saying that it might be canceled tomorrow because of the storm...

Well, at least I got all the poop boards scraped and the dog poop picked up today.

Both kits.

you had a good time? pics and stories to tell? you deserve to be lax my friend. Glad to see you return, did you read about whites? I so pray he is ok, and am seriously fretting about him.
What I have so far. This is at Monarch, CO. A place I had avoided for years cause it was off the beaten path and in my mind, too small for me to waste time on. It was great. Lots of terrain, just a short vertical. The top was on the continental divide. It was sooo much cheaper than the bigger areas. (Breckenridge lift pass = $160, Monarch lift pass = $84) At the bigger areas, a senior discount is for 65 and over (2 months short). At Monarch, 61 gets a senior pass. $55 for a full day and $47 for a half day. Skiing at Monarch and Keystone gave me 2 new areas I had never skied. The cabin we stayed in Saw a few good t-shirts. One said, "I drink very little, but when I do, I turn into a different person and that person drinks a LOT!" For another less appropriate ditty, PM me.
And I know you hatch tons, so I'm betting you know what you are doing! Well, I am going to see how this hatch does and go from there. If I said anything right now, my DH would go crazy, he's already having a rough time with this whole incubation thing. I wouldn't even think to ask him to change the setup now! Both setups make sense to me for different reasons, but I bet yours will turn out to be better! No doubt, for you are one to worship! So what did you read for your research? NOT that I don't trust you know what you are doing, but I like to read about stuff like that and try to understand it in my own head! Kind of the same reason I had to get a water wiggle going, so I could see the 99.5 degrees that stays pretty steady, instead of averaging the high and low from the thermometer. Again, drove my DH crazy, he felt I did not trust him! Silly man!
How did the water wiggle compare to averaging the highs and lows? I think, without scientific study, one should use the lower figure as that closer to the internal egg temp.
My water wiggle was at 98.5 when I started it two days ago, so i raised temps to bring it to 99.5 or therabouts. Which made sense to me, when I candled on day 8 they seemed a little behind to me.

It was nice being able to let Duckling splash in the puddles. Now she's ready to build another snowman.
