Also pricey, and I looked it up to find you can only get it from a vet. For scaly leg mites, he recommended canola or olive oil, and when I asked about castor oil, he suggested not to because of how sensitive birds are to petroleum based or toxic products. I was confused, but when I looked at my bottle when I got home (from Whole Foods), it said "hexane-free", so perhaps some castor oil is more toxic... I'm still deciding whether I'm going to try it anyway - Beekissed and others have used it without negative effect and great success. (Single application.) I have not been applying any oil while doing all these washes and soaks, but will apply it when I send him back out to the coop.

FWIW.

(BTW, his hospital pen is in the mudroom by the front door - he made an alarm noise, and it turned out the wind had blown something agains the door. Tempted to keep him as a home alarm system!

So interesting note, my guinea eggs day 23 haven't started drawdown yet (or haven't gotten very far anyway) but following in the the footsteps of the last batch my 7 duck eggs day 22) have started drawdown, go figure. Looks like my duck eggs are right on Schedule with the first ones.

They're right on time with the others, which internally pipped day 23 and externally pipped day 24, I wonder what's up with that.

Oh and it looks like I have two quitters on the guineas.

You know those numbered zip ties the the gnomes stole from me? The ones I spent something like 2 hours looking for this weekend before ordering more?

I just found them. In a small box on the sofa, that I SWEAR was not there this weekend. I guess the gnomes waited until it was too late to cancel the other order to return them.
