Well, guess i am on early, (Got a question)
I'm thinking of candling them all on day 7, 14, & 21. (If on day day seven I see any clears, I plan on candling them on day 10 again to see if I see anything and if not get rid of them. Sound right?)
I plan on candling 3 or 2 every other day or longer to make sure my humidity is good. Is there an egg chart for what duck egg air cells should look like?

Why do you want to candle so much? The egg will either make it or not. I candle to eliminate the possible exploding eggs around day 11 then on the day I move them to the hatcher. To me more candling just invites disaster. I have been known to drop a previously good egg, they are seldom good once they hit the floor.


Everytime you reach into an incubator you have the chance to introduce a germ/bug. I wear latex gloves while touching the eggs and try to limit my contact with them. I know I am not the normal person here, I just see no reason for all the checking and rechecking. the egg will either live or die, nothing I do can change that.

The candling and cleaning before they go into the incubator is the most important to me. No germs in, nothing other than eggs can incubate. The same with the hatcher, I clean and disinfect before a new batch goes in.

I wish I could disinfect the incubators before each batch goes in however, I can't because they seem to always have eggs in them.

Today I have 26 dozen eggs going in. The WWD thinks my hatching obsession is out of control, What does she know though...

I'm on day 17 today and everything looks good. I even saw movement in an egg this morning when I did my first turning of the day.

I started my bantam eggs on the evening of Feb 7th and counted the 8th as day 1.

Do I start lock down tomorrow evening or wait until Saturday morning? Given I'm seeing some rocking motion in one egg I'm a little uncertain.

Also, do I need to tip the air cell up when I go into lock down. I just read something about this on a previous page and hadn't considered that, although it does sound logical.

Morning all, hatch is in progress. Went to bed with 1 pip, woke up with a chick and 3 more pips.

Ordered stuff to start building the display cooler bator, parts and pieces should start showing up this weekend and I can start putting it together. Need ideas for a name, would like for it have something to do with 1000 due to the fact that is my projected goal for capacity. even though I told the wife I don't plan to fill to capacity
I plan to start a build thread once I get some progress made.

I think I recall you asking about the family yesterday. All is well, twins got 4 month shots yesterday so they had a rough night.

Candle 'em. You may have to lockdown day 17 if your temps were on the high side... I had hatches day 18 on my bantams.

I read you could do it every other day to make sure your humidity is right, but now I'm thinking It'd be better if I didn't candle so much.
