EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

The birds have been watered (literally. The boys are sparring. One is a little bloody) and the duck pool filled. A SPR hen keeps escaping the pen, then wanting back in. I had to go inside the pen anyway, so I tossed another hen and I'm hoping Kenny Rogers

out to free range.
I need to butcher. Someone come hold my hand and make me do it, and show me how.

I hate that I need to do it, know that the evil deed needs to be done, and SOON - the boy ducks are harassing the girls now that they are getting ready to start laying and I have more boys than girls. One of my ducks has a broken wing, now, because of it.

I was just thinking that I would give anything to have someone just sit there, and make sure nothing goes wrong. I had an instructor to teach me. But this time it's my supplies. And I still don't "get " one thing.
Alas, unless I bug one member here, I'm doing this alone. No way am I bugging my instructor.

Nothing evil about processing an animal.

You know - I find the work of animals far less than the never ending supply of housework.

Or maybe because it's that I actually *enjoy* the animals... and not the housework?

I got up early to check on my baby chicks, instead of sleeping in, when the kids were going to let me do for once. Oops.
Baby chick didn't make it, but the other 2 did that hatched well.

I was also awake, already thinking of how to fix my turkey pen, the stupid things poop so much compared to chickens, their entire pen is just covered in poop. I need to rake it out and put some fresh straw in there... or something.
I much prefer barn chores too. I was not ignoring you. I started work at 5:15 so I was driving.

UH OH, I screwed up. How can I fix it?

So I placed 8 Pheasant eggs in the bator almost 2 weeks ago! I had done this in hopes to get that extra week head start for my Sulmtaler and Bielefelder eggs I ordered to arrive. But needless to say, the eggs had not been shipped until this Tuesday, for tomorrows arrival. Also, not thinking clearly on this, I had added eggs from my flock again into the bator last Saturday, but I mean I almost filled the dang thing up! Now what do I do?

I candled the 8 pheasant eggs, but only 2 seem to be doing ok, I purged the other 6 today. Some of the eggs from my backyard flocks have veins already, others not just yet or they are too hard to see. I will candle again tonight just incase.

How am I going to get 24+ eggs into the bator, which ones, if any, should I purge out? I don't have a second bator, and thought that maybe I could borrow my friends but she lent out her turner, I thought I could just use it for hatching out in, maybe put the new eggs on top of the others, like staggered, then when these others are due to hatch, I can take them out and put them in the other bator?

I don't know what to do! I don't really need those eggs that I put in there immaturely, maybe I will just take most out to make room. OMG cant believe I did that ..... uuugggghhhh

get the other bator from your friend to use as a hatcher, take the turner out of yours so you can fit more eggs
as eggs are getting ready to hatch add them to the hatcher

By the way yall I have got a Dominiqueer rooster that looks like a game rooster can u have a rooster mixed with a game rooster
yes

hoping this one makes it. This was the lastest hatcher. (yes I know lastest is not a word)
sorry about that one, but the other two are cute!

I am not sure that you are meant to solicit badge nominations
lol, is that what was happening?

Recovery? No, but we'll help shove you off the ledge of insanity.
nudge, nudge

Still trying to identify this little chick. Here are a few more pics. I'm thinking it might be a silver penciled of some sort but not sure. It's a bantam but bigger than a OEGB.

Any guesses?
nope but it sure is cute!

Swedish Flower Babies. There's 2 more in the bator but they will need bathes

they dont look at all like your others, wicked cute!
