Have a great day!Quote: Well, friends, I see we've been relegated to being a "waste of time"![]()
lol, I didn't take it that way.
Holy crap! Ain't seen the 'rustic' way of boiling in a 'cauldron'except for the Farmers Museum in Cooperstown next to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Awesome!![]()
I just boil with wood in a old water bath canner on a barrel stove outside. Though I did do about 20gals of sap in our house today on propane and not all the way![]()
Supposed to get in the 20s here both sat and sun, and next thur, fri sat, hopefully....
Never thought I'd be complaining about it being warm here Lol!![]()
Was absolutely summer like here today, almost 70! Don't see any buds on the trees though, and still a few inches of hard ice/snow everywhere.
We had some going on the propane stove too.Nvm. I opened the remaining eggs and all of them were dead. Most looked fully developed and one even internally pipped but all dead![]()
Will you post some pictures or describe what they and the shells looked like? Perhaps we can help you figure out if it was something you can fix. There is a section on page one in the notes on eggtopsies that is very helpful.Quote: Well, friends, I see we've been relegated to being a "waste of time"![]()

Quote: I know, I know - but it's the rules of handling them in the middle of a city. They do relocate them very far away, but, of course, there will always be more or they could come back, which is why I don't bother with traps normally and don't own any. The reason these traps are being set and these particular raccoons are being removed is that he needed to ensure he caught any of the ones that were living in the house/attic before his repairs, so they wouldn't be trapped in there when he sealed up the holes/access points. (Also, a number of years ago when they were handling the same issue for me before, one of the raccoons they caught had either distemper or possibly rabies, by behavior. I was DELIGHTED to have them handle that whole situation.)
Quote: I know, right?!In all seriousness, I was out walking around this morning trying to finalize placement for the multiple growout pens, and needing to think of how the sun will hit my proposed spots in the afternoon (hottest part of the day). I'd rather roast just the chickens I WANt to roast, and preferably IN the oven.![]()

Today is a really beautiful clear day, so I will be heading outside every hour (when I'm not already out there) to watch where the sun falls.
Do you have eggs in there yet or not? Either way, recall from my earlier post that humidity is just a tool to get the proper amount of weight loss in the eggs. If you weighed eggs before putting them in (or if you haven't put them in yet), you can track by weight, and if not, you can track air cell size. You'll just need to compensate based on what the eggs look like they need. For my last hatch (in a Brinsea) I ran about 29-32% the whole way through, they all hatched. (Edit to clarify - I raised the humidity to 65% for lockdown, of course.)Not really, I adjusted the RH from 20% on the factory settings to 45%. it just doesn't seem to want to stay anywhere constant. I add a little tiny bit of water and then it stays around 37-40% for a little bit but then it just goes all over the place. Right now it is at 29%.
Not sure anyone asked this yet, but what sort of eggs are you incubating? (Dark or blue? White? Large or small or bantam or serama?) That can also affect the humidity, as can porosity in the eggs.
Quote: I don't think so - we were trapping for a good couple weeks before he was willing to start repairs - the point not being to rid my property of raccoons, but more to clear out those who were living in the house (catching them when coming out or in) so they wouldn't be trapped.
Quote: Yeah, as soon as I finish this coffee and yogurt, I need to head back outside.
Actually, it's 9am, so I need to pop out to check the sunlight in the yard real quick. BRB.
