EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Quote:
Thank you kindly! First time using an incubator, usually use broodies. I have a GFQ Styrofoam still with a turner. I had gotten shipped eggs from fellow BYCer but the shipment was delayed, so we both expected poor viability. That was correct, none of them developed. I also included four of my own girls' fertile eggs in case we had a lone hatch from her stock. Mine have all developed well, and tomorrow is lockdown, day 18.

I just candled the eggs this morning, and the air cells don't look big enough. I was a jerk and didn't weigh them before I put them in, so I don't know the weight difference.

It's not a big deal if they don't hatch, but I'd like to at least learn. Is there anything I can do now? I had been running the humidity at 35%, but sometimes it got up to 40%. Our house is pretty dry right now.
Right now, there is nothing you can really do to increase the air cells size in a day. I would just lock down normal. I would think some, if not all, will hatch.

You might also want to look at the assisting hatch part of the notes at the beginning of this thread, if you have any sticky chicks that you decide to assist.

I think it was calibrated, but I'm sure it was a little wonky because I had an additional 12 eggs that were in there until a few days ago.

So should I still have higher humidity when I lockdown? I will try to post pictures tonight with tracing of the air cells.

Yes, still do higher humidity at lockdown.

draw down is when you actually see the air cell dip down in one spot because the chick is getting ready to internally pip
and yes

I do a lot of things, that i'm sure people wouldn't agree with. My husband spoils me, and I make sure to always have his back, and that includes things like greeting him so he knows we missed him while he was gone and value his hard work. He also has a semi-dangerous job and there's always a risk he could die, whether it's from a bullet, or a snake bite, you know?

I always felt that being a feminist meant the right to CHOOSE how we, as women, wanted to live. What I normally here, is how "women who cater to their husbands" set back the movement...

But then again, my mother in law live through that era, and she routinely tells me in a semi-resentful tone, how her husband NEVER changed diapers, and that it wasn't expected. She was truly shocked, that my husband plays with the kids, changes diapers, helps with the housework and schoolwork, etc.

We don't have "male and female" chores here, everyone does a little bit of everything, you know?

People do what they are good at and everyone pitches in to help.
I did not - I went there, and they had no adoptable cats, I drove 2+ hours too. :(

All the rescue shelters that have animals in foster, I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone - and the one rescue up by Fire ant eat, they stopped talking to me when they found out I had to travel 6 hours to pick up a kitten.
I should have finished reading before I posted because I saw your conversation with Kristen. I hope you find one soon.
