EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'm not allowed to touch his tools... plus, with 3 kids, 6 and under, I don't have anyone to keep them safe if I started doing it. That's why he's supposed to help with the upstairs. the upstairs isn't baby proofed.

We quickly learned our house wasn't grandkid proof. Even though we attempted to make it so. Gosh they are fast. How quickly we forget.

Thought that last one might get your attention!
Yeah we have too many days above 90*F (one is too many), but that's the secondary use for the hose.
The humidity is harder on them than the temp, I believe; the RH frequently is about as high as the temp. That's when you break a sweat just breathing. The birds spend a lot of time with their mouths open when it gets bad, but the run is covered with a reflective tarp that extends about 1/2 way down the sides, so there's shade & ventilation. Factor in the tree cover & ice added to the water a couple times a day, & they don't do bad. PITA in that kind of weather, but better than blowing paths through 2'+ of snow.

Oh my!! Yeah, I'll stick with snow, thanks.

Bad thing is that the only sweet spot where there's no snow and no bugs here is mud season, which makes dirt roads impassable. Snow is much easier in general to drive in than mud, 'specially w/o 4WD.

You all get mud season in the US?

@Pensmaster

What's the best way to cut Plexiglas sheet?
I used a table saw

Mitre saw if it's small, table saw if larger

The table saw itself did fine. BIL (career carpenter) couldn't cut a straight line, even with a rip fence.

Well the piece I get to work with is larger than what I need. So practice practice practice. Sorry honey I cut it twice and it's still too short.
Did it splinter the glass cutting it. Piece I have is 1/8 inch

Now BYC is giving me the you've already posted this message. Yesterday the screen was half blue

Ok I'll use miter for curved cuts and try the table saw for straights. When the part gets here. Meanwhile off the coop to get it cleaned. Then the chicks from January go into it.

Picked 23 eggs from the hona pens that I'll try to set today. Broody is day 7-9? on her 4. Farm is a mess; five scovies decided they prefer the farm to the pond and have moved back. I guess that's fine. Goats haven't had hay in a week. :rant There's no forage left in the pen and I very specially said to make sure the manger was always filled.

Everyone seems to be alive, but I -feel- like there are way fewer chickens than when I left. Maybe because I've moved several into breed pens. I'll do a headcount tonight.

Very nice forgot your in tx. In the windy winter northwoods I need to build insulated house style coops.
We have more of an issue with heat - so for them, they need a shelter that wind can get through and we can put ice blocks in there for them to lay against.
