Good afternoon all!!

theyre gtting so big!!!

Why didn't you ask me, I have all kinds of Polish........
what other colors do you have??

Just popping in to say hello I've been to busy with alot of things my great pap and gram have passed away about a year ago so it was time to get the house cleaned out and get it put up forsale. I'm trying to decide on a new breed of chicken to breed this year. Finish the incubator, I've got 2 chickens inside one is setting on eggs cause I didn't have anywhere to separate her outside and the other has gotten an infection (mycoplasma synovia) and her left foot is nothing but a stump now I know it wasn't frost bite because she had been inside a while and her other foot was starting to do the same but was caught early enough to save that foot. Anyway the chicken with the missing foot will probably have to stay inside and be a house chicken and go outside a during the day but the thing is her stump gets broke open outside and bleeds so I either need to make her a shoe or something. Ok good night everyone I've got school work to do on top of everything with the marking period ending.

Lots of chicken "stuff" to do today. The show is this weekend and everybody needs to have beaks, feet and baths as well as some "table time". Baths wont start until tomorrow as my supplies have not arrived but I have plenty of cages to clean and sorting to do to as long as the hand holds up. Also 3 broodies are hatching as of yesterday so when I go out to feed them now I'm sure I will have some sweet little surprises!!!

muwahahahaha!!!

If you can have a broody I have decided to encourage the broody that won't take no for an answer.

I set eggs and have a bunch of Yokie eggs left over, I have not disinfected them so I can put them under a broodie. I will give her a dozen and half and see if she can hatch them. They are so small and she is so large...
lol, good luck!!

Well, I finally had to dive in to do the banding and weighing of the Aloha Naked neck chicks, all 26 of them. They scream bloody murder when I even walk by their brooder, so I wasn't looking forward to it, and yup, it was about as much fun as you would expect. But to be fair, it was the first time I've really handled them since I took them out of the shipping box. They are 3 weeks old, but a lot smaller than the other NNs I hatched here, so I waited until now for first weights (and they all weighed about what my 2 week olds out of Tank or Snape weighed). An hour and a half of being screeched at as a brutal chick murderer, and then, once I had handled and said hello to everyone (and photoed, weighed, and banded), now they don't care if I walk by their brooder anymore.

No more pasty butts among the surviving S&G chicks - how old to they have to get before I should stop worrying about it? (They are a little over a week old.)

Bread is rising, and I'm psyching myself up to go out and do yard work. Chilly (for here), but not raining).

Kitty cats say hello. They are hiding less, relaxing and lounging in front of me, and marking (with their cheeks) their favorite spots, which means to me that they understand this is home.

so out of the order that was delayed in the mail how many survivied and did the hatchery give you any credit? or USPS??

I am so freaking over this mirgaine/sickness/allergy combo thing.

Tylonal and icepacks aren't cutting it today, i've been unable to do more then just kind of lay here and beg my kids not to torture me with screaming, and ask them to get along today.

And, I know, if go anywhere to ask for something stronger than tylonal, they won't give me anything.

I went to the local walk in place, for antibiotics, and they made it clear they wouldn't give me pain meds, when I was asking for antibiotics. ^.^ (I never even ASKED for pain meds, all I said was it hurts to bend my thumb because I got an infection in it from stabbing myself with hay when I was feeding the goats. It was swollen, red, and had infected spots.) I just wanted antibiotics. that was it.

*faceplants*

okay, whine over, back to icepacks over my face.

hope it was over fairly quickly
and i hope the kids cooperated

Hello everyone. I am new to the chicken raising community and am pleased to announce my first successful hatch of 7 adorable babies. However, I had eight eggs and it is the end of day 21. I candled and tapped but did not see any movement or hear any peeping. I also do not believe I saw a pip through the membrane and not the shell. I am worried about this and am wondering what to do next. I'm not sure if I sure try to make a hole in the air cell or not. Of course, I understand things happen but I just want to be sure I'm doing everything I can. Thank you.
update?? it may not make it but to get 7 of 8 is pretty darn good!! Congrats!!

Okay, that one NEEDS to win!!
gig.gif
you cheated, and that is against BYC rules

I went down to the hatcher this morning. My Hatch was Thursday night . I had 2 chicks in there, hoping against hope, they would survive. The one is crippled and I will have to send it to the "chamber" today.

The other was one the membrane shrink wrapped on, he seems healthy enough but his fluff does not fluff. We have oiled, combed shampooed and he just has no down. Without the fluff he will die...

Anyways, when I looked in the hatcher I have a 3rd chick today 4 days after the hatch. He has the same none fluff problem..

I find it weird when I run 70% humidity in the hatcher and do not open the door for almost 2 days and they shrink wrap.... The a hatch 4 days late WTHeck?
sorry to hear this, i wonder if you should up your humidity another 5%?

Yes soon there won't be any animals to worry about. 60 homes to go up beside mine in the 300 acres next to me sure was quite when I first moved here. Cougars, coyotes, snakes, fox, turkeys etc. were the norm.
that really stinks
hugs.gif
i'm sorry

When did I say that?
just a few months ago you said it was the first time you got to vote Danno

Or I could just be one of those sorry guys who are 30 years old and living in their moms basement.
gross, i feel bad for yer mom

Weekend not quite over yet. Took today off. The normal chicken circle of life. Feeding cleaning butchering bagging freezing feeding.

Also the all important fire break and some gardening. Will be picking my brother up from airport some time today. Coming back in early from a job in Philadelphia something about a snow storm back there.
snowstorm near Phile? weird

Speaking of which:

When I was a kid Mom always made my birthday cake with a hard caramel icing . I'm talking icing that would break off in chunks, like peanut brittle. Try as she might, DW can't come close. She thought it might have been an OOPS on Mom's part, but she repeated it year after year.

I'd like to have a recipe if any of you have one.
Wondering if a little less cream would make it firmer and less creamy? It's cracks like glass candy?

look at these recipes: i like the 2nd one

I put my chicks out with mph last night in the main coop. They are three weeks old, but I have never used one of these or had chicks in my new brooder so I have been worried today. It is not as cold as it is up north, but the high today has been 31 plus nasty wind chill. I just hope the heating pad works for them. Real feel temperature is 21, and they have been in the spare bathroom till last night.
i am sure they are fine, but

Just ordered my teenager a bunch of birthday crap. LOL he wanted art supplies.
awesome!! so mch better than other stuff he could have wanted!!

The pig is doing well, I finally got a harness on her. Cat's forgiven me, and is being cuddly and friendly.

I'm due to lock down in 2 days, for 4 more eggs in my little bator, and I have a ton of new chicks/ducks/geese coming in the next couple of weeks.

I'm scared. I ordered 15 turkey poults, and ordered them last year, with out really thinking it through. So either A. We bitcher ASAP when they hit about 12-15 weeks.... or sell poults asap when tehy come in, because feeding 20+ adult size turkeys is a bit much for me. My flock of 5 right now is about right. And, my Tom, is not aggressive to anyone, which makes him a good tom.
lol cant wait to see them all!!

Banti. I have ducks!!!!

Pretty!!! I hope they have a nest
love.gif

Haven't taken the opportunity to check. I seem to remember Mom being in a hurry to get it spread on the cake before it could set up
see my note above, i think it is VERY close, i am thinking about making it this weekend if i have time :)

Keep up with me? Who wants to especially on days like today. Up at 4:15 milk goats be at work at 5:15 work till seven, get home milk and do chores for two hours, sit for half an hour checking BYC and lighting the fire. Now it is past time to go out and feed the last bottle to my kids before I can collapse and repeat. I am so sick of my hours. It is time for a new job so I have time for something other than chores like riding. I am trying to hang on till after my vacation.
Have a great night.
