Same here. I sometimes skip 2 or 3 days.Hey all,
I have skipped the last 500 posts, I should give up on this thread, I just cannot keep up...
I have eggs everywhere, I need to decide what to hatch and what to sell.
My Cuckoo marans are gone! Life is good again. (for today)..
I will try to keep up for an hour or so...
X2
For chicks, I use a reel top trough feeder so they can't stand on or in it. If you don't know what that feeder is I'll post a picture of it.Good Morning folks. I have another question if anyone would like to entertain us again today with suggestions? LOL How do YOU feed fermented feed to your hens / chicks? I have cochin babies and I have to admit that their very adorable feather legs are getting kinda sloppy looking from this method.![]()
You may want to add some dry feed after it is fermented if it is too wet. I like to feed it the consistency of oatmeal or mortar. So ... I appreciate the fermented feed and am doing it. I am hoping other FF user can share their adminstration techniques. I am findind it messy but I am still commited to trying it.The chicks love it and purr ( if a chicken can) after they eat it up.![]()
You can live vicariously through us.I am hoping to get an incubator soon. I was sad to not be able to do the hatch along this year . Oh well. I guess there is next year.

The bator has certainly paid for itself though over the years. Last week I hatched a tray of 50 eggs for this guy. I gave him the chicks and he handed me a wad of $$ saying the eggs were precious and I get him far higher hatch rates than anyone else. I was expecting $20 but when I got home and counted it it was $150. I checked with him and he said the goig rate is $1.50 per egg going in and an additional $1.50 per hatched chick. I have 2 more trays of his eggs in there..
That's too cheap.Me either, I just learned I do not charge enough for my EE's. I am selling them for a buck each if you buy 50, $1.50 if you buy less...![]()
Also @Phage do you worry about bringing in disease when you hatch other peoples eggs? Are they from a NPIP flock? do you disinfect before placing them in your incubator? Are they kept separate from your own eggs and chicks?
I know, I am paranoid about diseases....What can I say?
I use mesh bags for pedigreeing.I have seen this rate on CL but usually do it for free for friends or $20 for up to a full tray.
This guy does have 5 or 6 different breeding arrangements so the eggs have to be kept separated for hatch which is a bit tricky.
Are you wanting to do something illegal?Send me Marans eggs! Send me Marans eggs! Send me Marans eggs!Send me Marans eggs!!!
Send me Marans eggs!
X2I know selling chicks as soon as they hatch is REALLY important but that seems to be way cheap for EEs. Even 50c more each makes them a great deal.

Quote: Yes, you should certainly charge more!

It goes both ways. I really don't want to discuss for the billionth time what new bike wheels DH should get for his bike. They are all stupid expensive (like the cost of a cabinet bator) and he should get what he wants. It is his ONLY vice and keeps him healthy so I figure I am pretty lucky.
Thing is he needs me to say that what he wants is a fabulous idea like a gazillion times before he goes out and gets it.
That said I told him that the brinsea bator was on sale and that day was the last day of the sale (all true) and he said just get it now before the sale is over (in 2 hours)!! I was totally shocked (as he gives the appearance of hating the chickens) but that is how I got it!!

Someone did stop here once wanting to buy a particular rooster I have, he got a few others and some hens. He asked if I hatch eggs, and wanted to know if I would hatch some guinea eggs for him. I happened to have had guinea eggs in the incubator at the time, so he bought keets out of those, and dropped off 14 guinea eggs for me to hatch for myself.

Hey, Benny. You want some Marans eggs? I realy want a good Marans hen, for my colorful eggs basket ! It is extremely hard to find good Maranas breeding stock here!
So I guess I do want to hatch some Marsnas. I will pay 20$ for 4 eggs. You may have a problem. AI outbreaks have caused shipping cessation in many states here. It is a big problem, also from my part! It is against the low to order eggs ftom abroad, unless you pass an incredible long and troublesome process that make the all thing worthless.
Is the long and troublesome process for the sender or you. I just ask because I know what some people in Iceland go through so some of the Icelandic hatching eggs could enter the United States.
Awesome, no I can get more goats, and a bigger barn!Look what we have invented for you goat kippers!![]()
I hope they are found in good condition! My eggs are MIA. They were supposed to be delivered today and they are here in Montgomery, but no one can find them.![]()
