Typical goat.
Is that typical? my other nannies have been protective, amazing moms.................... this one was like "*** just happened to me, seeeeeya"

i bleach between incubation....but.... i don't do anything fancy, i even sometimes forget to turn my eggs for a couple days and got 100% hatch rate last time LOL

If I lived in the land of eternal warmth, happiness and sunshine and never had frozen, cold, short sunlit days, I could do that too....and if I hatched less than 200 at a time

I just meant it's typical for goats to pick the most inconvenient time to do something like that, not be a bad mom.

My husband would probably kill me, if I hatched that many chicks. I only hatch ... well the biggest amount I put into the bator was like 40... and out of that many 8 hatched... because ... shipped eggs. LOL

Of my own, I usually try to hatch 2-4 at a time. I usually lose a couple once I move them outside, the little buggers run off and I never find them again. They can squeeze through spaces I didn't even know where possible.

But, living in Texas is unique, we have 80 degree weather in december. LOL

I'd breed her back on her "foal heat", if they even exist in goats, just to see what she did when kids were born. If she repeated the performance, she's be eating someone else's hay in short order.

Generally, she could be rebred in 8 weeks or so if we lose all the kids. However, we want to milk her, so I'd probably wait about 4 months before drying her up and trying once more time before selling her. It's her first time, and she's not very bright compared to some of my other goats. So maybe she's just... slow?

Good mornin', y'all
Looks like we survived another one.

It's official; I'm losing it!
I have no idea where my head was last night. Well, actually I do, but I won't go there.
I just now went to let the birds out, only to discover that I'd never locked them up; they'd been out all night. They were still inside the 6' fence around their paddock, but the run & coop were wide open. I hadn't pulled that stunt in forever.
Guess the furry critters weren't hungry.
I have slight short-term memory problems caused by severe depression, so this has sadly happened several times in the past few months. Thankfully nothing has happened to them.

Oh,,,,And I know a ton of you will disagree with me on the above post, which is your right, I am just saying what works for me and my opinions........

And if you do disagree and take me to task, it will not matter because I will never see it when I get back 498 posts will have occurred......

I don't.

It's what works for you. I'd honestly never advise anyone try to hatch the way I do because it's difficult to meet my exact conditions.

Day 23 black copper Marans, 40 eggs. I got a better light. 15 egg were not fertile. There is an inconsistency in air cell size. Some of the air cells seem to be way off to the side. They were in a rotating tray. Can anyone tell anything from these picks? Also one is still alive what do I do with that?
