EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Will if I can get the drop on him. Or her. My son thinks he saw where they went where their den might be by the tracks. It took off that way he chased it lol. Better get my live trap back! It's borrowed out for a racoon problem my in laws had. They got it though. They have quail.
Good luck. Them foxes are tricky.

I gotta be careful shooting in town at night when it's so quiet. I got a rugar pellet gun that will do some real damage that ain't very loud but I don't know if it will take down a fox. We usually trap and haul them off for the nasty part. Except for the opossum that made a home in my flex ducting and tried to get in my house! That dude got eliminated on the spot!
True, I guess shooting at night would be frowned upon where you're at....

Well, first day of vacation here (though I had an interview in the morning). I was actually quite productive - got a lot of yard work done throughout the day. Turned out that it got up to 100F, so while I was generally ok, I had to stop around 5PM. Banti, re: temps - always so interesting to see. I was sitting outside watching everyone when it had hit 100F (I had given them fresh cool water an hour to two before that). Not in crisis, but panting and unhappy or dug down into the bedding or under deep shade structures to keep cool. I stayed outside in my hammock chair to watch them. When it had gotten down to about 97F (around 7pm), I felt like it was downright COOL compared to earlier, and the chickens were acting that way as well - like "97F? Oh, that's NOTHING!". So it's all about adaptation...

That being said, updated forecast is 103F for tomorrow, so I'm glad I'm on vacation so I can swap out their water for cool water as needed and spray the ground as well.

And for a little context... Last night I was going through unanswered threads, and there was one from a person in Chandler, Arizona. First post on BYC and a sad one - lost two 11 month old pullets to heat. It was 123F. I really need to stop complaining NOW...

How long is vacation, do you have any plans? It's too darn hot there.

Found Maple on another clutch of 10 today. No wonder egg production has been down.

:woot

Awwwwwww
Uh no. Just saw a fox lurking around on the other side of my fence. It has a pup too. Or kit or whatever your supposed to call it.

Good luck with the fox!

I am about to go out of town so of course I have two hens go broody. I have never broken a broody before; I like to let them hatch eggs but I won't be here. My husband is staying home but I don't think he wants to have to keep an eye on chicks so the poor broodies will have to be broken. :hitHopefully they will still go broody again in the Fall like usual.

Good luck breaking her!

BTW, did you say you had a scan on the 27th? I could go with you on the 27th if you need the company. Just not the 30th...

I swear, the worst thing in the world is to be injured in either an accident or at work. With all the drama, there are so many barriers to getting the right treatment because everyone wants to say "not it" when it comes to responsibility... Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE system...

:hugs:hugs:hugs

I do have a scan down here on the 27th!! I'm guessing you don't want to drive 6+ hours round trip for a 40 minute scan though. :p

Odds are, we'll do a repeat scan in a week or two, after this next friday... so I'll let you know dates as soon as they give me the next one.

Good morning everyone! :frow

Rainy day here.

Morning Mike. Temps down here. Only to be 102 here today.
After 95 all outside workers go home.

We can tolerate the 105-110 degree temps down here, until you add in the 30-50% humidity, then it's a killer.
Agreed with the humidity. This heat wave has been 50% humid as well. We are usually in the 30# range
