EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Something funny just happened. . I went to like Ralphy s post and something popped up and asked me if I was sure I wanted to like the post! What in the world? I've never seen that happen before lol

Strange things happen where he is involved I've noticed. Does anyone have a REAL answer to wether the pine shavings are ok for plants or trees lol

I answered really !!!

You did? I didn't see it.

I actually just did this myself - I had shavings from cleaning out the brooders, and had previously piled them in a pile to compost, but Puppy (my free/lone ranger) broke the whole pile down with her little dancing feet. So I needed to move them elsewhere. Decided to put them around my apple trees - I'll also put them around the blackberries. I don't expect to get any fruit from the blackberries this year (just getting established, and I'm doing my standard "abuse the plant and force it to grow roots and take care of itself" thing, so they are alive, but not producing this year). Apples would be bagged and picked off the tree. I probably wouldn't use it in the veggie garden until broken down for a long time...

It was hot today, but the chickens have pretty much figured out their various ways to keep cool. I sprayed the shaded ground in the Botany Bay paddock, and here they are loving it. Good thing I know this is dust bathing and not a group seizure...

Just back from errands (TSC and more shade cloth at Lowes). I like my TSC, but they were out of Feather fixer (except one lone bag), and my little girls are growing up and starting to lay - so it's time to switch from chick starter to Feather Fixer. Got a rain check for an order of five more bags. I do NOT like to get low on feed. Here's a photo of those three green eggs, BTW:

While waiting at the service counter, my eye wandered over to the dog supplies. And here we have it, a sign that the apocalypse is coming soon...

It's back down to 100F now, so I may head out and see how everyone is. I ordered a full rope hammock and stand on Amazon the other day - I can't wait to set it up in the back yard. What I REALLY want is a pool, but I need remodeling done before that happens, so I need to wait a few years (and save a lot of pennies). I am SOOOO tempted to get one of those temporary ones, though. (Except I've had them before - a real pain.)
