Don't you enjoy caring for your birds in comfort rather than fighting for every step?

Yup. That's why I prefer winter to summer. Summer brings bugs and oppressive heat.

I will say caring for ducks is easier in summer... But hauling a few more gallons of water per day is nothing compared to the alternative.

I didn't know there was such a thing as clean farm eggs. My pal Bobby supplies me with eggs They usually have some poo on them. I do rinse them off and then bleach my sink. . never thought about bleaching the eggs. Maybe I should but I haven't died yet.

I wash mine in very, warm water, large glass bowl, 1 tiny drop of soap and 4-5 drops of bleach and 1/2 sheet paper towel to wash. Rinsed under hotter water than I just washed in. Eggs set on a clean, white, bleached towel. Refrigerated promptly once air dried.

We agree!!!

I never submerge an eating egg, and I use 120 degree running water, I don't think I would ever use bleach on an egg I plan to eat.

Minute amount doesn't hurt it. The bleach doesn't get in the egg. You're contradicting yourself.

I feed eggs back to the hens that are 1-2-3 months old. Yes...raw.

X2. Shoulda seen what my neighbour did... She washed eggs with water from the dog bowl. I figure since they're still alive, and I'm still alive, it can't be all that bad.


I wash eggs with whatever temperature water comes out of the tap when I turn it on.

...... .................. NOT DOG WATER!!!



I once had a lady handle her hamster...then pour me a nice cup o coffee with her hands without washing them.

I share my coffee with the chooks. They love it, and try to mooch whatever I have outa my hands. I often end up sharing my food with them... Brats. They're supposed to eat their own feed.

Jace loves popsicles. She'd steal them from the kids if she could. Alas, she's relegated to just staring hopefully up at them.
