EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I'll make the coffee. :bun
You do that. :thumbsup
Ahhh, so that's where you were, hiding in the weeds again. What ever are we going to do with you, & who will you be attacking? Had I better start running now? What direction?. Oh, Good morning, BTW :frow :hugs:hugs
Anything you want. Anyone I want (but I was referring to my dwindling flock that I am catching, and keeping hostage). Good morning.
:frow Good morning, Mike, & whoever else is out there (uhhh, that would be your cue, Abi)
Hurry with that coffee, Mike. My regular coffee lady is dragging her butt this morning, & I'm fixing to go into shock w/o my coffee fix
I really did sleep in today. Still only got six hours though.

Once upon a time, I had 8 or 10 hens, 7 roosters and a turkey in the coop. I was determined to get the extra boys dealt with when they chose to not sleep inside.
I am down to two hens, five roosters and a turkey running around my property during the day. They still had to go into the coop to eat though. Oh, and no chicken eggs in the coop for several days. I hear them being laid on someone else's property.
Yesterday I was trying to clean up a mess near the coops (chicken wire hidden in very tall grass and weeds!) when I got two roosters trapped inside. I hope to catch more today.
I also hope I can find some gloves to keep my hands safe. They are a mess!

Thanks everyone for your support. Thought, prayers and good juju sent my was are always welcome.I did not leave the couch today. 101 fever with chills and all over pain. Its breaking now and down to 99.5. If my transportation does not get approved, I will do my best at home OT. I refused to drive impaired. Last year I hit and killed dog that bolted out in front of my car and I still have not forgiven myself for it. I could not deal with hurting a human-i would rather suffer. 2nd nerve block procedure tomorrow-Bill is taking me. I am hoping for a 3rd letter regarding not to drive from my anesthesiologist. my attorney is on this and he states if he does not hear what he wants from his partner or if he is not assertive enough, he has another lawyer for me that he has complete faith in. I am following all the rules and trying to get better but everything is denied or delayed and I am now in the 11th month. i honestly dont know how much more I can take :hit
PS Dont let the horns fool ya-MC has a giant halo that she is holding up and has been an angel to me through all of this :hugs you are all wonderful kind people.thank you for your love and support :love
I like many others wish there was more I could do. Keep using us to sound off we are glad to hear from you. Insurance stuff sucks.
I am getting a small glimpse of your world as I try to find an orthopod that is actually covered by my insurance so I can go see him about my shoulder from the incident with the bull.

I was given 4 bronze turkey eggs. All were taken from my daughters hen, layed at unknown dates. This was her hens second batch. Her first batch all died from the Tom pecking them or being smashed,so she decided to let me hatch them.
I candled them and could see that they were all at different stages. about 10 days along or more.Air sacks were very small as we live in central florida and humidity outside is 100% so I let them run dry at about 35% humidity for a week.then back to 45%
Well I was away for 5 days and I got home yesterday. One egg has externally pipped and one has internally, the other two need more time. Both chicks are alive and the one is pecking away at it's shell. My only worry at this point is both eggs were still in bator with 45% Humidity and also in egg turner when they pipped. They are now in my other bator at 72% humidity and on there side.
I have high hopes but Im still a noob. Any tips will be welcome.

Not much you can do now, so Good luck,,

I know I give people poop for canding to often..

Seriously though on turkey eggs DO NOT candle until day 14. You will throw away good eggs and nothing is accomplished earlier.

Turkeys really,,IMHO need 40% then up to 65% humidity on day 24-25... I never lay them on their side. I hatch them standing up. I do pretty well on turkeys this way...

Good luck. BTW do not touch them and stand them now. Leave thy fingers off thy eggs!!

PS as Aurora says have a chick tutor ready to go, it will save a lot of turkey lives.....

Also you have to know your own area. If I hatched at 30% like Aurora does I would have every chick stuck to the shell. Incubating is a SCIENCE and you need learn from each batch...

On one of our semi-recent trips to WI, the DIL & I went to Menards & bought all the mat'l for a fire pit, complete with screen cover, & constructed it that night,
We don't have a Menards around here, so when we got home I tried t get the mat'l from Lowes. They had some of it, not all, & the price was way out of sight. I'll have to drive the truck out again, & buy everything from Menards. I really like their stores.
You might see if you can order it from them it might be cheaper to pay shipping then gas.
