Sounds like you need to "escape-proof" the run, then keep them confined for a few days, 'til they hopefully figure out where they belong. Either that or hatch out replacements.Once upon a time, I had 8 or 10 hens, 7 roosters and a turkey in the coop. I was determined to get the extra boys dealt with when they chose to not sleep inside.
I am down to two hens, five roosters and a turkey running around my property during the day. They still had to go into the coop to eat though. Oh, and no chicken eggs in the coop for several days. I hear them being laid on someone else's property.
Yesterday I was trying to clean up a mess near the coops (chicken wire hidden in very tall grass and weeds!) when I got two roosters trapped inside. I hope to catch more today.
I also hope I can find some gloves to keep my hands safe. They are a mess!
