EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Once upon a time, I had 8 or 10 hens, 7 roosters and a turkey in the coop. I was determined to get the extra boys dealt with when they chose to not sleep inside.
I am down to two hens, five roosters and a turkey running around my property during the day. They still had to go into the coop to eat though. Oh, and no chicken eggs in the coop for several days. I hear them being laid on someone else's property.
Yesterday I was trying to clean up a mess near the coops (chicken wire hidden in very tall grass and weeds!) when I got two roosters trapped inside. I hope to catch more today.
I also hope I can find some gloves to keep my hands safe. They are a mess!
Sounds like you need to "escape-proof" the run, then keep them confined for a few days, 'til they hopefully figure out where they belong. Either that or hatch out replacements.

One should not edit a post and miss the point of science vs art entirely whilst doing so.. :plbb

One never did........

Hi everyone! Hope you guys are all doing well! We made it safely to Oregon and back home. I uploaded some pictures yesterday afternoon on the pennsylvania-unite thread. I'm really missing the ability to copy and paste and post right about now. They took forever to upload so if anyone is interested, check them out!
Was it fun?
I am glad you had a safe trip.

You might see if you can order it from them it might be cheaper to pay shipping then gas.
You have any idea what kind of weight you're talking about? Each of those blocks has to weigh close to 10 lb. I'd think, multiplied by about 30. Shipping that much weight 800+ miles via UPS would eat me alive. I don't need a fire pit quite that bad.

Careful, Lady. "Anything" covers a lot of territory.

Run? What's that? Ohhhhh! The mess I'm cleaning up was once called a run. It should have been called a fall.
I will be hatching the SPR. I feel awful that only SPR hens are still around. I love Steven Tyler. I didn't think I was attached until the reality set in. If I don't have EE/mutts, I don't need Steven. He's honestly a great husband and father. He will come running anytime a hen cries rape. He is right there with the mommas, teaching the chicks to scratch, and calling them for treats.

I had no problem getting the two roosters into the proper pen so I could open the main door for catching more. Almost immediately, the remaining flock came towards me because the food is inside. I stood outside, and contemplated waiting until both hens were in before shutting the door on them. However, I wasn't sure that the second one was going to go in until the first one came out. I used a net to shoo the first one, and she moved just right to get into the net. I just got the latch on the back pen open, and she escaped. :th Why didn't I shut the main door just in case?!
