EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I know how you feel. I'm WAY over my chicken limit at the moment, yet I just hatched my first AC babies from my flock :) there are 6 little black fluff balls in the brooder :)

Who doesn't love the AC? ;)
And I have yet another broody starting. Found her tonight half buried in the dirt. So stilll I thought she was dead for a second.

Gotta love those broodies. They could care less how many chickens are already in in the coop when they want to brood. I have 1 that went broody again (her third time this year). Our pet sitter neglected to collect the eggs that were INSIDE the coop, only the ones in the nests so Ana took it soon herself to continue to overpopulate the world. A few were already developing when w got home from vacation so she has them under her.

She got off nest yesterday so I grabbed the eggs. Not so today and there's 3 roosters plus hens in there. Not moving her at this point it would cause such a ruckus with dust flying everywhere I decided against it.

Oh no. No no. Don't love the silly broodies right now.:barnie I have broody hens on top of broody hens right now. I think I've convinced one hen to quit. Two or three more start up.
I think there's around 14-15 broody hens.:barnie They're nesting in the feed for pete's sake! :thI took this today. These two are vying for the position. Doesn't even matter if there's eggs. The one below stole it from Louise, on top. They were both in there tonight. Whatcha gonna do? :lau

One of the broodies didn't even have eggs. I did give her eggs from a hen that really lays well.
None of my broodies have eggs except Louise. I've taken the golf balls out. I took the fill out of the nests and left them bare for two days. They broke so easily last time. Ugh.

Chewbacca's chicks are hatched out and I gave 5 of her chicks to a buff Silkie just to stop the buff from setting...lol.

The reason I got the Altsteriers is they weren't supposed to be broody. Yeah that didn't work. It's a disease I tell ya.
Well morning comes early so I'm done for today. :frow
