EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I have another question. So 7/10 barnyard mix i picked up from a farmer chicks made it to hatch, 3/7 shipped serama chicks made it. They took 2 days for the lot to hatch, and it was a bit earlier than expected.

I don't believe any of the serama chicks are still alive in shell though I still see veins on 1 but no movement. With the veins recede if there is indeed a dead chick inside?

The other question has to do with 1 of the mix chicks. It is definitely still alive, I can see movement. But even though this was not shipped, it has a really odd aircell. The other mixed chicks all hatched Sunday night and into Monday.

Does this chick need assistance?

Just to clarify, I'm holding the candles at the fat end and the chick is horizontal to the end of the egg. This was in an auto turner and was set at the same time as the others.

I went to let the chickens out a while ago & found them all huddled together, shivering & shaking something awful; looked like a bunch of Elvis impersonators. A couple even had scarves around their necks, and I don't think it was for looks. It was down into the 50's
I'd like to see that. I bet those scarves look down right fashionable! :clap
Don't be a stranger!

I guess they know where they are heading.

That is weird.

You betcha!

What the heck is wrong with people.
Money combined with greed with a side of laziness and lack of decency & respect.
Sounds like you have chickens that are even wussier than Jace.

My feathered rugrats have been enjoying the cool weather in the mornings, as have I. Fall is definitely coming. :yesss:
FALL! Please come fall! Please come fall! :woot

That's a really strange air cell for not being shipped. If it were mine I'd "very" carefully open it up to see what was going on. Perhaps it can't zip. The chick may not be viable and that may be why it hasn't hatched. You won't know until you open it though.

Have you read how the article on how to assist? Or perhaps you've already assisted chicks?

This is my first hatch but i have read all about it. I'm a little wigged out, but i think it won't hatch if I don't help, so I'll be helping either way.

Good plan. Just remember to GO SLOW and then go slower. Soon as they can breathe you can slow down even more. :fl

The porous cloth is the problem. I've even had paper towels hold the moisture below the wire. It shouldn't have but I sure fought the humidity when I use it.
I had placed a paper towel down (it was dry and quickly soaked up) I then placed a paper down that I use in my work lab that has a light texture and the surface area was working good not to soaked not to dry. And humidity has been a stable 59-60
