I am anti corn 1000 percent.
And just like I know I will never change some peoples minds about the way I do things no one will even change mine about feeding out corn.

I increase corn in the winter. The carbs help keep them warm when it is 40 below. I feed corn year round in a balanced ration the local feed mill makes.

HOWEVER, during the bug/green month I only feed the free ranging birds in the afternoon, just before bed so they get out and hunt down their own dinners.

I wonder if Ralph feels the same about FF as I do corn?
If so...I might actually understand him now!

I feel more strongly against FF than you do corn so you understand now....:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

BTW do you know how hard it is for someone like me who is always correct to be patient with those like you???

heck we bought a bag of corn during the summer. It was the first time we tried corn. The girls were on it like crack. They did not really free range much, just ate the corn out of the feed mix. So we stopped buying it.

I hadn't thought a lot about corn one way or the other 'til your post, but a couple things now come to mind:
Corn generates heat, so should help in cold climates during Winter.
For the same reason, it may be contraindicated for warmer climates during Summer.
Corn is undigestible (as I understand it) in cattle & humans. Is it also in chickens?

CORN!!! :lau

We have neighbors who grow corn and they turn their cattle out onto it for winter grazing. Of course I greatly dislike that because that attracts all the coons in the entire countryside.
I saw a family of coons hitchhiking North last Winter. One of them was carrying a sign saying "Canada or Bust"
