EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Good morning all! I was planning to go back to bed but the morning poultry pests kept me busy for too long. All the turkeys wanted their morning snuggles. Romeo kept chasing the other toms away so he could have me to himself. Cuddles and Eve each demanded a hug, and the babies insisted on getting in on the action. Misty needed held and Azul wanted to get the nail polish off my toes. When I escaped the turkey coop, the geese needed their dose of attention and followed me around yelling until I stopped to pet them and talk to them for a minute. Finally, I made it back to the porch to head in and there's a little cotton ball, standing at the top of the steps talking and letting me know that she's there. Little Sylvia, patiently waited, taking a little nap while I went in to make her eggs. Now it's too late to go back to bed lol.

@mlm Mike The number I take depends on the class and the goal, I will be taking around 12-15 Cream legbars, as we are trying to get enough for a qualifying show to gain acceptance as a breed.

I will be taking 8-10 Partridge Chanticler, around 10 Dominiques....5-6 Speckled Sussex and 3 white legbars... I would like to take a toad but that could upset the show people...

Knucklehead and Knothead have been in cages since the first of July. Cuddles has been in since mid-July. The longer they are in the cages the better they act in them, Also in a cage gives me a chance to handle them daily and look for imperfections.

Wow, that's a lot of birds to take. I was considering the extra time you have to take to care for all of them.

You driving an 18 wheeler to the show?

lol, I was thinking the same thing.

Any updates?

Baby is still rockin and rollin the her egg. There are still clear blood vessels all around. So keeping her membrane moist and playing YouTube videos of chicks next to the incubator.
Didn't know if that posted or not. I'm not sure the little one will come out tonight. This is a crazy wait.:fl

Thanks, good luck! :fl

Soooooooo... I got the pvc run mostly down yesterday. There is still a few feet of wire caught up in the weeds.
I used the riding mower to clear some of the grass and weeds away. Found another tomato plant ( ) And moved on.
I was cutting near a trash can where the grass has gotten long. I didn't see the old wire that had fallen to the ground.

My poor lawn equipment. The push mower died, and so did the weed eater (b-i-l pronounced them dead after a lot of CPR last weekend). The lawn tractor has been through a lot this summer. Pooooor tractor. :lau

Careful with that wire. The other day a blade from the tractor's cutter became loose and got caught up in the other blade. Waiting for spare parts to arrive, then I'll be back in business.

I'd like to clarify that I didn't kill the push mower or weedwhacker. Age did.
I was going to call a landscaper to deal with everything. But I ended up ordering a new weed eater. I still will ask a landscaper if he has a mower he wants to replace. Reasonably priced of course.
My new whacker is a Black and Decker battery powered. It will be nice having an easy to use one. Even if I do have to keep the battery charged. It's also a plus that I don't have to mess with gasoline or oil!

I certainly know what it's like getting a mower hung up in wire; been there way too many times myself. A real PITA to clear.

Yea but like Whites says it don't get done by itself. With the cooler weather, yes it's cooler, I'm getting more done.
And when you don't have access to the equipment you really need, like a tractor & brush hog, you use what you have.
